AGBOR — The campaign for a new direction in Ika South took another step forward on September 8, 2026, as Mrs. Ogor Tony-Obuh, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ika South Constituency in the 2027 Delta State House of Assembly election, paid a consultation visit to the leadership and members of the One Mind Association in Agbor.
The meeting, held in a warm and engaging atmosphere, brought together executives, stakeholders, women, and youth representatives of the association.
It was convened to introduce Mrs. Tony-Obuh’s vision, seek strategic partnership, and request the association’s support and prayers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Tony-Obuh commended the association, describing it as a group that truly lives up to its name.
“The name ‘One Mind’ speaks of unity, purpose, and direction. And that is exactly what Ika South needs at this time: a people of one mind working toward one goal — the progress of our land,” she said.
She noted that her decision to run was driven not by personal ambition, but by deep conviction, prayer, and a desire to serve.
Recalling her travels across the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State alongside her late husband, she explained how those experiences exposed her to the everyday struggles of ordinary citizens.
“I saw schools without teachers. I saw hospitals without drugs. I saw roads that break our vehicles and break our spirit. I made a promise to God and to myself that if I ever had the opportunity, I would be part of the solution. That opportunity is now, and it starts with representing Ika South in the Delta State House of Assembly,” she stated.
Mrs. Tony-Obuh emphasized the vital role of the legislature was shaping the constituency’s future.
“Laws are made there. Budgets are passed there. The voice of Ika South must be loud, clear, and effective there. I am not going to the House to warm a seat. I am going to work for you — the trader in the market, the student in the classroom, the farmer on the farm, the youth seeking opportunity, and the mother in the home,” she affirmed.
Laying out her primary agenda, she called for an end to political imposition and godfatherism, advocating instead for genuine, people-driven representation.
“The time when one person sits down to decide who represents all of us is over. Power belongs to the people. In the NDC and in this movement, every voice will count. There will be fairness, transparency, and access. If you elect me, my office will be your office,” she assured.
Directly addressing the members of the One Mind Association, she asked for three key things: their prayers, ideas, and active support.
“I am not coming with money to buy support; I am coming with a plan to earn your support. I need your wisdom because you know the challenges on the ground. I need your structure because you are present in every community. And I need your vote so that together, we can send a strong, new voice to the House to represent us all.”
Touching on economic sustainability, she emphasized youth and women empowerment as core priorities, contrasting her vision with short-term political handouts amidst ongoing criticism surrounding the temporary ₦50,000 disbursement initiatives in the Ika Federal Constituency.
“Real empowerment is not ₦50,000 once every four years. Real empowerment means skills, jobs, access to capital, and an economy that works.”
“As your representative, I will push for vocational training, business grants, market access, and policies that put our youth and women at the center of development in Ika South.”
In response, the Chairman and members of the One Mind Association received the candidate warmly, commending her humility, track record, and clear message.
He noted that the association was founded to promote unity, development, and the welfare of the Ika people, adding that they remain open to collaborating with leaders who share these core values.
Describing Mrs. Tony-Obuh as “a daughter of the soil with a listening ear,” the association promised to take her message back to their ward and unit levels for further deliberation.
