AGBOR, DELTA STATE — The recent arrest of prominent Agbor figure and palace personality, Mr. Basil Okoh, by the Nigerian Police has sparked widespread outrage across the community.
Reports indicate that the arrest was orchestrated by Dr. Festus Okubor, a former Chief of Staff to the Delta State Governor and past gubernatorial aspirant.
The police action reportedly stems from an article written by Mr. Okoh titled “APC Thieves,” which criticized the activities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) both locally and nationally.
Police officers reportedly broke into Mr. Okoh’s residence in Lagos to effect the arrest.
While initial reports pointed toward Rt. Hon. Martin Okonta, updated information confirmed that the petition was authored by Dr. Okumbor.
The manner of the arrest has drawn heavy criticism from Agbor residents, who view the tactical raid as an unnecessary attempt to humiliate a respected community leader, noting that a simple police invitation would have sufficed.
According to recent updates, Mr. Okoh was released shortly after his arrival at the station, spending less than an hour in custody.
