2027: Why Delta Must Support ‘In-Law’ Tinubu – Gov Oborevwori

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged residents to rally behind President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing the President’s deep family ties to the state through First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Oborevwori pointed out that Tinubu stands out as the only major presidential contender with a direct, personal connection to Delta State.

“Among the candidates, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only one who has an affiliation with Delta State,” Oborevwori said.

Characterizing the President as an “in-law” to the state, the governor argued that it would be politically counterproductive for Deltans to vote against him.

“The man is an in-law here, and it would be wrong to vote against your own in-law. It’s a family affair,” the governor asserted. “In the South-South, the people of Delta are saying this is their own. They won’t be misled this time.”

Oborevwori also praised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her role in consolidating local support for the administration, particularly within the Itsekiri ethnic nationality.

“The First Lady is keeping the state’s support strong, and no Itsekiri person will vote against Tinubu. Likewise, no Urhobo man will, especially with their own son serving as governor,” he added.

Beyond family ties, the governor defended the Tinubu administration’s economic policies. He noted that the Federal Government’s macroeconomic reforms have significantly boosted monthly revenue allocations to states, empowering local administrations to execute critical infrastructure projects.

“Our confidence lies in the people. The President’s reforms and programmes are yielding results. When I commission projects and state that we have the funding, it is directly due to these federal reforms. If they weren’t working, the states wouldn’t be receiving these funds,” Oborevwori concluded.

The governor’s remarks follow the recent honoring of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu in Warri, where she was conferred with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse (Light of God) of Warri Kingdom by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.
