Political insiders suggest that the top hierarchy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to drop his senatorial ambition in favor of the incumbent, Senator Ned Nwoko.
While DELTA DECIDES is still verifying these reports, all indications point to a strategic move by party power brokers to ensure the return of Senator Nwoko, alongside Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other key legislative leaders.
This development may be linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s desire for a stable Senate composed of trusted allies.
Source who pleaded anonymity hinted our reporter that there is an apparent apprehension regarding candidates who historically opposed his political trajectory or challenged his electoral victory into the Senate
It is worth noting that Senator Ned Nwoko was a member of the APC before the “old PDP” faction joined the party.
Sources suggest he may have successfully negotiated his defection with a guarantee for a return ticket.
Synchronizing this report, it would be recalled that the coalition of Delta North Youths recently issued a press statement formally rejecting his candidacy, warning they would not support any party that fields the former governor.
Stating their reasons, the group expressed dissatisfaction with Okowa contesting a high-profile seat while his daughter is also seeking elective office.
They emphasized that Delta State is not a “personal estate” and urged political parties to look toward alternative candidates.
Emphasising their reasons, the youth group highlighted the pending ₦1.3 trillion allegation, asserting that until the EFCC clears his name, he remains a “suspect” who lacks the moral mandate for their support.
