A support group of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has implored Obidients, supporters of Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, to be “cordial and friendly” amid his planned defection.

In an X post on Sunday, the group appealed for mutual respect, saying it had been on the political platform before the anticipated influx of new supporters.

“Dear Obidients, remember we’re here before you. Please be cordial and friendly. Do not bully us. Regards,” the post reads.

The message comes a day after the group shared a viral post in which it said it was “praying against the spirit of Abure, Nafiu, Apapa and Arabambi” — a reference to factional leaders linked to the leadership crises in the Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).

TheCable had earlier reported that Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, would move to the NDC this week as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

On Sunday, Kwankwaso confirmed that he has begun “wide-ranging consultations” on his next political move following the recent judgement of the supreme court on the leadership tussle in the ADC.

Obi also said he would be leaving the ADC, citing internal battles and divisions within the party as reasons for his decision.

Meanwhile, Kwankwaso has downplayed reports of political alignments, saying he has not declared for the presidency or endorsed any aspirant.

The former Kano governor also reiterated in a separate statement that he has not backed any presidential hopeful.

The developments signal shifting alliances within the opposition, as key political figures continue to scout for stable platforms amid lingering internal disputes in existing parties.

The NDC, led by figures including Seriake Dickson, former governor of Bayelsa, positions itself as a reform-driven platform amid internal crises bedevilling some opposition parties.
