ALIAGWA, DELTA STATE — In a striking display of community-focused leadership, Mrs. Ogor Tony-Obuh, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ika South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, officially commissioned and handed over a fully restored health center to the people of Aliagwa on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
The healthcare facility had long suffered from severe neglect, degrading to a point where basic medical care was severely compromised.
Speaking at the official handover ceremony, Mrs.Tony-Obuh recounted the pivotal moment that compelled her to intervene.
She revealed that she was driving and noticed the deplorable state of the health centre, and was moved to call an engineer, to cost the renovation before going into action

While reiterating her commitment for community development, Mrs. Tony-Obuh disclosed that seeing fellow human beings subjected to such conditions broke her heart.
Addressing the gathering, the NDC House of Assembly candidate emphasized that access to quality healthcare was a fundamental pillar of good governance, noting that a healthy population serves as the bedrock for education, productivity, and overall community well-being.
Speaking with one of the nurses during the ceremony, it was discovered that the intervention brought immense relief to healthcare personnel who had spent years struggling under substandard conditions.
They noted that Staff were using buckets and basins to hold waters, just as they expressed profound gratitude to Mrs Ogor Tony-Obuh, disclosing that they had repeatedly appealed to the local government council but yielded no results.
Corroborating these accounts, Mr. Onyeonu Justice Vincent, Secretary of the Aliagwa Community, highlighted the long history of administrative neglect that preceded the candidate’s intervention.
“I personally wrote to the local government chairman three consecutive times detailing our desperate need for help, but we received no assistance,” Vincent stated.
“Mrs. Tony-Obuh did not wait for official red tape—she saw a need and met it. This act of kindness shows exactly what she will accomplish when elected to the House of Assembly in 2027. I pray God replenishes her pocket and grants her heart’s desires.”
The Community Head, Diokpa Ezinas Mkpughe, described the candidate as a compassionate leader who has earned the deep loyalty of her people.
“I am overjoyed that our health center has been transformed,” Diokpa Mkpughe told journalists following the commissioning. “May God promote, protect, and replenish her. Whatever is her heart desires in this upcoming election shall be granted.”
Local residents, represented by Mr. John Ijeh, echoed these sentiments, thanking Mrs. Tony-Obuh for restoring dignity and hope to the community’s healthcare delivery system.
The event quickly drew prominent political and community figures, who framed the renovation as a preview of what to expect from an NDC-led representation.
Chief Okibali of Oki praised Mrs. Tony-Obuh’s track record, noting that genuine selflessness defines her character.
He urged elders, youth, and residents across Ika South to rally behind her candidacy under the NDC umbrella in the 2027 general elections.
Echoing his sentiments, Mr. Clement Irabo, the NDC LGA Chairman, commended the initiative and encouraged residents to support her vision for the constituency.
Adding a voice from different communities, Comrade Aigbe David, a resident of Abavo from Ward 11, assured the candidate of solid support from his people.
He highlighted the broader socio-economic pressures facing the electorate, noting that voters were eager for tangible change.
“You can no longer even buy ₦4,000 worth of fuel for a motorcycle trip from Abavo to Agbor—that is the level of economic hardship everyday people are facing,”
Comrade David asserted. “Our issue is not personal with anyone; it is with the failed policies causing this quagmire. Leaders who solve real problems, like Mrs. Tony-Obuh, shows that the NDC represents the pathway to a better Nigeria.”
Adding to the voices of support, Mrs. Uche, a resident of Aliagwa community assured Mrs. Tony-Obuh of the unwavering backing of the people, noting that the health center’s previous state was a symbol of total government abandonment.
“We will not make the mistake of electing docile leaders who only think about themselves,” Mrs. Uche concluded. “Mrs. Ogor Tony-Obuh has shown that she truly has the interest of our people at heart and we will support her”
