The political landscape of Ethiope East is shifting. As 2027 approaches, a clear consensus is emerging among community leaders, political pundits, and the grassroots: it is time for a change in representation.
The call for the incumbent, Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, to step down in favor of Chief Dr. Mrs. Mercy Eguriase Sule (JP) is growing louder by the day.
While Hon. Arthur Akpowowo currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, his tenure has left many constituents feeling overlooked.
Political analysts highlight a significant crisis of confidence, noting that his legislative track record has failed to inspire hope for future performance.
The general sentiment suggests that his impact has not matched the weight of his office.
In contrast, a recent survey conducted across the constituency reveals a deep-seated admiration for Chief Dr. Mercy Eguriase Sule.
As the CEO of the Bemys Foundation, her “community-first” approach has already delivered tangible results without the need for a political mandate.
Through the Bemys Foundation, Chief Dr Mrs Mercy Eguriase has consistently sponsored school fees for underprivileged students in Ethiope East Constituency for the past years of her philanthropic activities
The same with direct intervention in settling hospital bills for those in need, and assistance with housing and rent for struggling families.
This platform also learnt of the landmark renovation of the Isiokolo Police Division, a project that has significantly boosted local security and community morale.
While we are still unraveling the opinions of many residents in Ethiope East Constituency, some of our reporters gathered that most people said they were no longer looking for promises, but looking for proven empathy and action.
They reminded that the renovation of the Police Division in Isiokolo is far reaching of the constituency, emphasizing that the message to the leadership is clear: ”We need a representative who understands our pain and invests in our progress.”
Some residents noted that the community wants Hon. Akpowowo to step aside and allow for a transition to a leader who has already demonstrated her commitment to the people.
They noted that Chief Dr. Mercy Eguriase Sule represents not just a political alternative, but a new era of proactive and compassionate legislator for Ethiope East.
