OSOGBO — Prominent diaspora philanthropist and Chief Executive Officer of the Vera Gold Foundation, Hon. (Mrs.) Veronica Chika Osagiede, has hailed the victory of Senator Ademola Adeleke in the Osun State governorship election, describing the result as an unmistakable triumph of popular democracy.
Hon. Osagiede, a recognized global humanitarian and coordinator with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), stated during an exclusive media chat that the election was a defining moment for Nigerian democracy, showcasing how organized citizens can overcome institutional pressures.
Reflecting on the factors that influenced the ballot, Hon. Osagiede highlighted prevailing economic difficulties, inflation, and income inequality as the primary catalysts that mobilized voters across Osun State.
“The election was a referendum on economic performance,” Hon. Osagiede said. “Citizens were driven by the severe financial realities facing their households. They recognized that the ballot box was their most effective tool to demand accountability and better economic governance.”
She commended the resilience of the electorate, noting that citizens resisted voter suppression and intimidation by staying at polling units to monitor the counting process through to the final announcement of results.
Extending her official congratulations to Ademola Adeleke, Hon. Osagiede lauded Osun Governor for his patience and political perseverance through challenging electoral battles.
She also highlighted the instrumental role played by the youth, making specific reference to global music icon David Adeleke (Davido).
“What David Adeleke did goes beyond supporting family; it was a demonstration of active civic responsibility,” Hon. Osagiede remarked.
“He used his platform to amplify the voices of the marginalized and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the electorate. His patriotic spirit should serve as an example for influential young Nigerians across the country.”
Analyzing the broader implications of the Osun poll for Nigeria’s political landscape, Vera Gold Foundation Boss declared that the defeat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state sends a strong signal regarding public dissatisfaction with current governance structures.
She urged Nigerians across all geopolitical zones to adopt the “Osun Democratic Model”—turning out in large numbers, rejecting voter coercion, and actively defending electoral outcomes.
“The lesson from Osun is clear: when the people unite with determination, their will cannot be suppressed,” Hon. Osagiede added. “We must carry this momentum into upcoming regional and national elections to ensure that true governance by the people prevails across Nigeria.”
