AGBOR — The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Governing Board, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, is reportedly losing ground among his political supporters in Ika Federal Constituency and Delta State following growing discontent over a lack of political patronage.
Sources close to the development revealed that despite Ebie’s strategic appointment—backed by former Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori to strengthen political alignment within the Ika Federal Constituency—his grassroots support base is rapidly eroding.
Insiders within the Ika axis alleged that the NDDC chief has prioritized established political stalwarts while abandoning the youth and media aides who bore the brunt of political opposition on his behalf.
“Barr. Chiedu Ebie is primarily focused on servicing the older political class, while the younger foot soldiers who defended him online and on the ground have been left to fend for themselves,” a source disclosed.
Delta Decides also learnt that the situation was further complicated by allegations of selective financial empowerment within Ika Federal Constituency
While a select inner circle allegedly secures lucrative contracts, media handlers and field operations supporters have been reportedly being completely neglected.
Additionally, contractors operating within the state have raised concerns over delayed payments on executed projects, adding to the mounting friction.
Attempts to reach Barr. Ebie for an official response were unsuccessful as of press time.
However, an associate familiar with the situation attributed part of the current friction to lingering fallouts from the recent All Progressives Congress APC congresses in the Ika Federal Constituency.
