AGBOR, DELTA STATE — Strong indications have emerged challenging the indigeneship claims of Hon. Cordelia Anyangwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ika South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, raising fresh political calculations over her electoral prospects.
An investigation by Delta Decides reveals that Hon. Anyangwu paternal lineage traces back to Ute in Ika North East Local Government Area, contrary to widespread assumptions that she is an indigene of Abavo in Ika South Local Government Area.
According to community sources, her paternal grandfather Mr. Mekwuye, originally migrated from Ute to settle in Obi-Ayima, Abavo, where he raised his family.
Sources hinted that during that period, her father reportedly encountered integration friction and backlash over his ancestral roots.
While her mother hails from Ekwuoma and her late second husband, Mr. Jude Onyia from Ekuku Agbor, a prominent pool promoter based in Reservoir, Agbor, findings confirm that her direct paternal lineage remains rooted in Ika North East.
Our investigative desk hinted that a compounding controversy surrounding her origin has elicited serious questions regarding her financial stewardship during her tenure as Commissioner representing the Ika Ethnic Nationality on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADAEC).
Recall that Multiple sources have cited alleged irregularities in the management of statutory allocations under her watch—specifically regarding the 50% portion of Delta State’s 13% Oil Derivation Fund statutorily earmarked for the development and welfare of oil-producing communities.
Community stakeholders are now questioning whether these statutory funds were transparently utilized for impactful projects across Ika communities or diverted during her service year.
