Nigeria is often described as a nation united in diversity, yet many citizens continue to face discrimination because of their cultural, ethnic, or religious backgrounds. Instead of embracing our differences, some communities treat outsiders with suspicion, exclusion, or even hostility.
Today, we live in a country where many people are judged because of their culture or place of origin. Some people only support or associate with those from their own ethnic group. This attitude creates hatred, division, and misunderstanding among citizens. We should remain united regardless of where we come from, because we are all Nigerians.
Imagine wanting to buy something from a seller, only to be charged a higher price because you are not from the same state or tribe as the seller. Such treatment is unfair and promotes discrimination rather than unity.
Over the years, cultural and religious discrimination has caused pain, division, and conflict across different parts of the country. Many people have been denied opportunities, unfairly judged, or made to feel unwelcome simply because they come from a different tribe, speak a different language, or practice a different faith.
If we truly believe in the idea of “One Nigeria,” then every citizen deserves equal respect, regardless of their origin, culture, or religion. Unity can only thrive when we learn to see diversity as a strength rather than a reason for division.
