The new political alignment of Peter Obi, a Political party spearheaded by Seriake Dickson, the former Governor of Bayelsa State and current Senator.

However, Darlington Okonma, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ika Chapter, has expressed concerns regarding Obi’s political strategy.

Speaking on the current political landscape, Mr. Okonma argued that one of Peter Obi’s primary failures was his refusal to register his own political party.

According to Okonma, relying on existing structures rather than building a personal platform has left Obi’s ambitions at the mercy of others.

”The best thing that could have happened for him, similar to Omoyele Sowore, was to register his own political party,” Okonma stated.

The Delta-based journalist further hinted that Obi’s perceived lack of grassroots engagement and specific regional visits suggests he may not be prepared for the rigors of national leadership.

He emphasized that building a party from the ground up was a hallmark of a committed leader.

Despite his criticisms, Okonma urged the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to consider a joint ticket featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He noted that such a pairing would be in the best interest of the party, provided Obi takes the necessary steps to secure a firm political foundation.
