ASABA — The senatorial ambition of the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, has suffered a significant setback following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) decision to reopen an investigation into an alleged ₦1.3 trillion misappropriation scandal.
It was gathered that the former governor honored an invitation from the EFCC in Lagos on Monday regarding the ongoing probe into his administration’s financial dealings.
Sources within the anti-graft agency confirmed that the visit was connected to investigations into his eight-year tenure as governor, of Delta State of Nigeria
This platform gathered that this latest invitation reportedly follows a barrage of petitions submitted by various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and youth groups, most notably the Coalition of Delta North Youths, led by Barrister Ben.
Recall that Barr. Ben had insisted in one of the Programs on Arise television that the former governor still has critical questions to answer regarding financial misappropriation, noting that the body had written to the EFCC to expedite the matter
During his television appearance, Barrister Ben emphasized that the case remains highly active, just as he questioned the political wisdom of handing party tickets to individuals under active anti-graft investigations
He noted that such actions by the APC undermines political integrity as well as losing the trust of the people
Speaking on the negative impact of the alleged mismanagement, Barrister Ben lamented the state of infrastructure.
He noted that despite Okowa being a medical doctor, healthcare facilities in the district were so poorly equipped that his own sick mother could not access proper medical care within the senatorial district, forcing the family to seek healthcare elsewhere.
