The Immediate-past Governor of Delta State and Delta North APC Senatorial Candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing the policies as necessary steps towards rebuilding Nigeria’s economic foundation and securing a more prosperous future for its citizens.
Okowa spoke at the APC presidential campaign rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he highlighted increased financial resources available to the three tiers of governments, improved capacity of subnational administrations to meet salary and pension obligations, and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as significant interventions with far-reaching implications for national development.
He also highlighted the broader policy direction of the Tinubu administration , including the removal of petroleum subsidy, foreign exchange and tax reforms, and efforts to strengthen domestic revenue generation. According to him, these measures are aimed at addressing longstanding structural weaknesses, improving fiscal stability and creating a more sustainable economic environment.
The former governor further pointed to the growing contribution of domestic refining, particularly the operations of the Dangote Refinery and privately owned modular refineries, in strengthening local petroleum supply and reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined products. He also highlighted initiatives to widen access to affordable financing as important steps towards supporting businesses and creating opportunities for Nigerians.
On education, Okowa described NELFUND as a major intervention that is giving more young Nigerians the opportunity to pursue higher education without allowing financial constraints to stand in their way of academic ambitions.
He noted that increased revenue accruing to the various tiers of government was also enhancing their capacity to invest in infrastructure and social services while meeting their obligations to workers and pensioners.
While acknowledging the difficult adjustments associated with economic reforms, Okowa maintained that confronting the structural challenges that had constrained the nation’s economy was essential to achieving lasting stability and growth.
He therefore called on Nigerians to continue to support President Tinubu and his administration, urging voters to translate their confidence in the APC’s vision into votes for the President and all the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.
He expressed confidence that a renewed mandate would provide the opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms, accelerate national development and advance the collective aspiration for a stronger, more prosperous and secure Nigeria.
