Frustration is mounting among youths in the Ika ethnic nationality over their total exclusion from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) foreign scholarship and skills acquisition programs.
Speaking with our correspondent, Mr. Ifeanyi from Ekuku-Agbor expressed deep concern that the youths in Ika land have been completely sidelined from participating in NDDC initiatives, noting an absence of visible impact for the Ika nation despite Barr. Chiedu Ebie’s leadership role in the commission.
Another source, Mr. Ogorchukwu Onyiejein from Alihamie, corroborated these claims, stating that no Ika youth has successfully secured access to the commission’s overseas scholarship opportunities.
He contrasted this with past tenures, asserting that youths from other ethnic nationalities historically enjoyed substantial representation during previous administrations.
Investigations further reveal growing discontent regarding the allocation of commission resources.
Sources allege that instead of prioritizing youth development, political engagement has largely favored established politicians, with critics claiming that multi-billion-naira contracts benefit an older political class while the youths continue to face economic hardship.
As this platform continues to monitor the commission, investigative efforts were set to utilize provisions under the Freedom of Information Act and Official Secrets Act to examine project allocations, procurement transparency, and youth empowerment metrics within the NDDC.
