AGBOR — The political ambition of Mrs. Ogor Tony-Obuh, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ika South House of Assembly, received a major boost recently as residents of Oki Community during Ogwa Oki visit in Agbor turned out in large numbers to declare their unwavering support for her candidacy.
Addressing community leaders and residents during the consultative visit, Mrs. Tony-Obuh declared her readiness to bring transformative change and true representation to the Ika South Constituency.
She stated that she was determined to keep alive the visionary legacy of her late husband—a respected political figure who once came close to governing Delta State.
Reiterating her commitment to people-oriented leadership, the NDC candidate emphasized that her loyalty remains strictly to God and the electorate, declaring that the era of godfatherism in Ika South was officially over.
“I am stepping forward on my own. God is my Godfather, not any man. Candidates backed by external political godfathers will only serve those godfathers and their interests at the expense of our Constituency. They may offer you money, but please do not fall for it,” she urged.
Mrs. Tony-Obuh lamented that the people of Ika South have long been excluded from choosing their own leaders, identifying political imposition as the root cause of the constituency’s stagnant development.
“When a position is designated for Ika South, our people should be allowed to nominate and elect their own representative. Currently, Ika South lacks a genuine voice in its leadership, which is why progress has eluded us. I am coming to change that narrative and offer real solutions,” she added.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Festus Obuh, the eldest man in the Obuh family, alongside Mr. Goddy Osabu, stressed the importance of unity, urging the community to rally behind their own candidate.
In a show of solidarity, the Elema of Oki offered traditional prayers for Mrs. Tony-Obuh’s electoral victory.
Similarly, a popular community figure, Patience Onyesom (aka Last K), called on residents to support her, highlighting the candidate’s long track record of selfless community service during her years as a civil servant long even without seeking for political position.
