ABAVO— In a major boost to local infrastructure, Mrs. Ogor Tony-Obuh, wife of the late Tony Obuh and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Ika South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, has donated ₦1 million to the Ekwuma community in Abavo, Ika South Local Government Area.
The intervention is aimed at restoring electricity to the area after months of total blackout.
Speaking during the presentation, Mrs. Tony-Obuh emphasized that the people of Abavo Community deserve a better quality of life.
She expressed concern that the community had been left in darkness due to fallen electricity poles that remained unfixed for three months.
“It is deeply painful that a community as large as Abavo has been forced to endure months without electricity,” Mrs. Tony-Obuh stated.
“This donation is a demonstration of how much I value this community. As soon as I was informed about the fallen poles, I knew I had to step in.”
Prior to her intervention, residents of Ekwuma were reportedly planning to levy each household between ₦10,000 and ₦20,000 to raise the funds required for the repairs—a financial burden this donation has now entirely lifted.
The donation was made during a meeting with community elders held at the Ogwa of Ekwuma, Abavo, where Elders took turns expressing their profound gratitude.
While speaking with Journalists, Mr. Okonta Michael who is the Okibali Uku of Ekwuma, Thanked Mrs. Tony-Obuh for her immense generosity, noting that the donation has brought immense relief to the households who were worried about the impending financial levies.
Emphasizing their appreciation by the elders, Mr. Ajayi Nico, the Okibali Nta of Ekwuma expressed the community’s joy over the timely relief and declared their readiness to support her endeavors in a political endeavors
Adding to the sentiment, Mr. Evans Okoh, who is the Ekwuma Community Chairman, confirmed that both the elders and the youth of the community were deeply appreciative of her kind gesture, which has restored hope to the community
