The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists and recovered six firearms, including a Beretta pistol and a pump-action gun, in separate operations in Agbarho and Oghara.
The command also recovered four locally made guns, four live cartridges, 10 expended cartridges, a battle axe and a jackknife during the operations.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, November 6, 2026.
Edafe said operatives of the Command Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU), Sector 3, Ovwian-Aladja, arrested 34-year-old Akpoghene Goodluck on November 4 while on patrol along the Agbarho-Warri Expressway.
According to the statement, Goodluck attempted to evade the operatives, prompting a search of the premises where he was apprehended. The search led to the recovery of two locally fabricated guns and 10 expended cartridges.
Further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, 50-year-old Solomon Arhugberume James, from whose residence the police recovered a pump-action gun and a live cartridge. The two suspects reportedly claimed to be members of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security outfit but failed to produce identification to support their claims.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Oghara Division arrested 23-year-old Clinton Awuerowswo, also known as Clinbaby, on October 23.
Edafe said Awuerowswo had been at large since firearms were recovered from his residence on March 23, 2026.
The police recovered a Beretta pistol, two locally made cut-to-size guns, three live cartridges, a battle axe and a jackknife from the suspect.
“During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the weapons and membership of the Eiye confraternity,” the statement said.
The command said investigations into the cases were ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel Erale, warned against cultism and the unlawful possession of firearms, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to sustained operations against criminal groups.
He also urged residents to provide credible information to the police, assuring them that the identity of informants would be treated confidentially.
