Eugene Azuka Uzum has called on elected political office holders in Delta State to gear up their performances in the development of the state or be ready to be voted out in 2027.
Uzum, a lawyer, policy analyst, and politician, stated this against the euphoria of some politicians trusting their reelection in 2027 to the strength of any political party in the state.
He said that high profile consultative meetings and endorsements of candidates would not be enough to guarantee the reelection of such candidates in the 2027 general elections, adding that the electorate had become more politically enlightened and wiser to choose candidates of their choice through performance assessment and not on mere popularity or simple affiliation with bandwagon or mega parties.
Uzum, who is also a youth advocate, called for more engagement of the youths in the state, noting that various steps of empowerment should be introduced to capture more of the youths from joblessness into productive ventures.
He noted that political realignments appeared to have slowed down the tempo of developmental governance in the state, adding that elected office holders from the governor through members of the National Assembly and the state Assembly to council chairmen and their councilors should prove their critics wrong by working extra hard to bring greater dividends of Democracy to the people within the next few months before the electioneering campaigns for the 2027 elections kick off.
Uzum reiterated that elected political office holders in the state had the favourable political environment and fiscal capacity to perform to the aspirations of the people, adding that they should take advantage of such to make the task of their electioneering campaigns manager easy for their return to office in 2027.
