A lot have been discussed, volumes written, rumoured and learnt about the man, Chiedu Ebie, a passionate public service epitome, who to many people came into political limelight when he rose to serve as Commissioner, Secretary to the Government of Delta state, SSG and now Chairman, Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC Governing Board. Yet, a lot of people need some lectures about the actual essence of this iconic figure.
Chiedu Ebie is a cool-headed seasoned politician, an easy-going, charismatic and disciplined gentleman ; a consummate communicator and erudite administrator who will never choose rhetorics over results.
Chiedu Ebie stands tall as a focused and courageous administrator with a clear vision and unwavering resolve, one not easily given to noise making nor singing the praises of his achievements but who prefers to remain literally quiet and do more in contributing more to advancing the course of the people he passionately serve.
For those who do not know him too well, Chiedu Ebie is a goal-getter and reformer per excellence deeply committed to moving any agency he leads to greatness, transformation and development.
For example, when he was announced as the Chairman, NDDC Governing Board, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora were overwhelmed with excitement because for once, government has spotted a reformer for an interventionist agency that urgently needed reforms.
Most widely discussed and written about in recent times is the amalgam of the Delta Unity Group, DUG and the APC, and the defection of well over 5000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP into the fold of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Agbor on saturday 12th April, 2025.
The carnival-like rally was a remarkable one that signalled a new dawn in Ika political trajectory and a bold shift towards progress and realignment. And no doubt, the political shift has ignited discussions in different quarters and within opposition political parties in the state and beyond.
The truth is stark : Chiedu Ebie has blazed a trail with the injection of Delta Unity Group DUG into the All Progressives Congress and the entrance of thousands of PDP members into the party.
The Ika Federal Constituency and Deltans at large have since lauded his visionary politicking, especially at a time when Deltans eagerly yearn for inclusiveness and Progressive narrative –one deeply rooted in vision, competence and integrity. These, the PDP decampees have found in the All Progressives Congress APC, that fueled the gale of defection.
