There is no gain saying that, electricity supply in Nigeria is at its lowest ebb, and one of the major reasons why the country has not made economic and sundry progress in the last years of existence
This of course is unconnected to the economic hardship, increase in crimes, poor educational performance, joblessness, poor Gross Domestic Product, GDP and other activities that can boost the economy of any country.
It is a parameter or a foundation for which the economic performance of any community can be linked to. The electricity downturn has not only crippled the economy, but that prices are now discriminated due to increase in the cost of producing goods and services
Moreso, companies in Delta had all relocated due to high costs of production which of course is orchestrated by the lack of power supply in the country.
It has been proven that for any country to achieve economic milestones, it must work to address the issue of electricity.
This is one major reason, Senator Ned Nwoko, the Senator representing the good people of Delta North, Senatorial district has been distinguished, putting him in a class of his own, moving motions that will improve power supply in Delta State and Nigeria at large
Senator Ned Nwoko, the Star Prince of Idumuje Ogboko, and a Distinguished personality, recently had moved motion, urging the Nigerian Senate and the federal Government to address the delay in the electricity step-down of Okpai independent power plant
This is because the Star Prince, who is an influential voice in the Senate and a notable personality, as well as a community leader, believes that electricity is very critical for improving the standard of living of the people as well as indispensable factor for eradicating poverty and achieving sustainable development in the State
To achieve this milestone, with much consideration in his quest to elevate the standards of living of his people, he tailored his motion towards achieving constant electricity in Delta State and Nigeria at large
This of course is the primary consideration that motivated the Star Prince to query the delay of the Okpai independent power plant and how electricity can be improved in Delta State and Nigeria in general
Looking further, Senator Ned Nwoko in his motion, opined that Nigeria currently has 23 Power Generating Plants, also known as Independent Power Plants (IPPs), which are interconnected with the National Grid.
Synchronizing his belief, Senator Ned Nwoko correctly stated that these plants have a combined capacity to generate 11,165.4 megawatts of electricity, having one of these facilities in Okpai Independent Power Plant, located in Ndokwa East Local Government Area in Delta North Senatorial District, operating at a functional level of 930-megawatt gas-fired power contributing to Nigeria’s power supply grid.
The Senator who is at the forefront of the reformative legislative process of Nigerian Senate, is of course changing narratives of the Nigerian people through vibrant and acticulated representation, with so much energy to bringing about good governance and attracting federal presence to the senatorial district
Internalizing the rules that govern legislation, the Idumuje Ogboko born Politician and Philanthropist possess an inner force that guides him towards life task, and achieving the much needed arsenal to make the Nigeria of our dream come true with emphasis on activating other legislators to help in actualising our dreams of a better society
Ned Nwoko who is a never tiring Senator in his motion at the Senate expressed worries that despite the presidential pronouncement in 2005 and the upgrade of the Okpai Plant to 930 megawatts, there is still no sign of the implementation, citing several benefits to the economy and national development
