As a show of love during Christmas, the wife of the chairman of Ika North Local Government Area, Mrs Doris Odigwe, has identified widows in the council area with gifts of rice and groundnut oil.

The event was also followed by a colorful Christmas children’s party. The two events were held at the Council secretariat, Owa-Oyibu, on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Speaking during the event before the distribution of the food items, Mrs Odigwe said that the donation was part of the council’s support initiative to assist widows in the area.

While thanking her husband, Hon. Monday Hunkamma Odigwe, for his support in ensuring the welfare of the widows and children in the local government area are given concern during this yuletide season, she advises them to celebrate with love, joy, and happiness with one another.

She also urged them to celebrate with contentment, particularly with the council’s donation to them, pointing out that this was her first Christmas gift since her husband became council Boss in July 2024.

Continuing, Mrs Odigwe assured that she will use her position to prioritize the interest and welfare of residents particularly women and children in the area.

She has further urged the children to be of good conduct and future ambassadors of the society. She also used the occasion to advise parents to ensure they give their children a proper upbringing in the fear of the lord.

Mrs Odigwe, while thanking the local government council for allowing her to organize the children’s party this season, assured that she would continue to use her position to better the lives of people in the area.

In an interview with newsmen, Hon Monday Hunkamma Odigwe, who was present at the Christmas Party, disclosed that the essence of the children’s party was to make the children and their family members happy.

According to him, “Xmas is a season of joy, and as a result, the need to celebrate with the children and their family he said has become necessary. We are having a Christmas Party this afternoon. This morning there was a party for the widows where bags of rice and other food items were given to them.”

“We are warming up the children for the Xmas festivity, so it is said that what is worth doing at all is worth doing well. As we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, we should also celebrate with the children because it is where the joy of the celebration revolves.”

“I also want to use the medium to advise the people in my council area to celebrate in joy and happiness by giving to others, particularly to people that do not have food to eat during this season”, he added.

He reiterated that his administrative determination and commitments would continue to sustain a legacy that would contribute meaningfully to making the area one of the best places to live, even as he urged the people of the constituency to celebrate the season in peace and harmony. He wishes them all a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year 2025.
