The Chairman, Delta State Traffic Management Authority, DESTMA, Chief Peter Idion, has announced plans to implement an advanced traffic management system, ATS, to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations.
Speaking to the press, Chief Idion emphasized that DESTMA will leverage cutting-edge technology, including intelligent traffic lights and surveillance cameras, to optimize traffic flow, monitor road conditions, and proactively identify potential hazards.
“These technologies will enable real-time monitoring and rapid responses to incidents, minimizing congestion and significantly improving road safety for all,”
Chief Idion, whose appointment has been met with enthusiasm by Deltans, emphasized his commitment to aligning DESTMA’s operations with the Governor’s MORE Agenda.
“Our primary focus is to harness our expertise to enforce traffic laws, reduce road accidents, and enhance the overall safety of motorists and pedestrians throughout the state,” he said.
He further emphasized the crucial role of effective traffic management in driving economic growth.
“Efficient traffic flow facilitates smoother movement of goods and services, boosting trade and commerce within the state,” Chief Idion explained. “By implementing a modern and efficient traffic management system, we can create a safer and more prosperous Delta State.”
To achieve this, DESTMA will prioritize the implementation of advanced technologies, including ATS, intelligent traffic lights, and surveillance cameras.
The Chairman also insisted on training and Equipping traffic officers as well as providing comprehensive tools to effectively perform their duties.
Elaborating his team priorities, Chief Idion noted that the agency was going to engage in sensitization campaigns, public awareness programs, and community engagement initiatives to foster a culture of traffic law compliance among motorists and pedestrians.
“We are committed to cultivating a mindset of responsibility and respect for traffic laws among all road users,” Chief Idion concluded. “Together, we can create the safer roads of our dreams.”
