Disturbing scenes unfolded in Agbor Delta State, on Saturday the 3rd of May 2025 as members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) claim their scheduled meeting was violently disrupted by former party members who have since defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Youth members from across Ika South Local Government reported being targeted around 7:00 AM at their meeting venue on Mariere Street in Agbor.

They described an attack by approximately fifty armed individuals believed to be cultists.

Speaking from Central Hospital in Agbor, where he is receiving treatment, Mr. Jude Obianke, a former supervisory councillor and one of the meeting organizers, recounted the ordeal. “We planned this meeting to strategize for the PDP’s future after recent events within the party.”

He detailed how, following a meeting with police on Friday where they were instructed not to use the party secretariat claiming they publicly announced a new venue and notified law enforcement agencies.

“Despite these steps,” Obianke continued, “as we prepared the venue, we were attacked. They came with weapons, destroyed everything, and I was assaulted and robbed.” He firmly believes the attackers were acting on the orders of former PDP leaders now affiliated with the APC.

Echoing this sentiment, Hon. Chinedu Eghor, a former councillor and fellow victim, described the morning’s events as “shocking.” He emphasized their unwavering commitment to the PDP, driven by a desire to secure their future and that of their children. “We are baffled by this attack from those who chose to leave our party,” Eghor stated, highlighting their constitutional right to freedom of association.

Both Obianke and Eghor called for calm among PDP members, asserting their dedication to rebuilding the party and their rejection of any individual agendas. They urged the defectors to focus on their new party and allow the PDP to move forward.
