The newly elected vice President of National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, South South, Mrs. Stella Macaulay has said the association would align all media players in the region through her mantra- PEAK Policy
Mrs. Stella Macaulay who is the director of New Media, Ministry of Information, and Chief executive officer of Elona Development Foundation, stated this during the NAWOJ State chapel meeting which was held on the 6th of December 2023 at the NUJ press center, along Marian Babagida road Asaba, Delta state
She noted that the association was an offshoot of the NUJ, delving particularly on issues that affect women and children in the profession
Mrs. Stella disclosed that the role of NAWOJ among other things was to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas which promote professionalism, welfare of its members and best practices in journalism as obtainable elsewhere in the world
She emphasized that there were a lot of new entrants in the profession who were yet to understand that the association was both an industrial and professional union as derived from the parent body, ‘the NUJ’ just as she revealed, it was the responsibility of her administration to ensure that the right values were passed down.
Her words,” Again, we have heroes who made sacrifices to keep the body as a community, these must be celebrated and the stories retold. I will align all media players in the region through my Campaign Mantra-PEAK which stands for: PROFESSIONALISM, ENGAGEMENT, ACCOUNTABILITY & KNOWLEDGE PROPAGATION in the BRACED states in Zone F
which are Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa lbom, Cross River, Edo and Delta States.
Elaborating on her policy, the media guru maintained that her administration would run an all inclusive government, bringing a fusion of the old and new, where everyone’s voice will be heard and all hands encouraged to ensure the association sails to safety at the end of her 3 years tenure.
” For journalists, I say we must assume our watchdog role and not drag ourselves to a place where the public questions our integrity in our reportage. To the public, l plead with them to be patient with us and let’s join hands to build Nigeria especially the South South Zone that bears the natural resource that feeds the other parts….Yes, we lay the golden eggs!” She added
