Osato Edobor, the Delta State School of Nursing student who gained notoriety for her alleged role in recording and sharing a viral video during First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit, has reportedly failed her final examinations, sparking claims of politically motivated retaliation.
In March 2025, Edobor was among students filmed singing “Na your mama be this” in response to the MC calling the First Lady “our mother” during her Renewed Hope Initiative visit to Delta State. This rejection of the “mother of the nation” title went viral, fueling online discussions about Nigeria’s economic issues among young people.
The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences subsequently issued Edobor a disciplinary query for a “malicious act” of sharing the video, citing student handbook violations.
However, the Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne defended the query, stating Edobor had disgraced the school and violated nursing codes by posting the video in uniform.
She also cited a separate video where Edobor made “disturbing and damaging” comments, including joking about bomb searches and the nursing anthem’s length, and stating she didn’t know the Delta State Governor’s name as she wasn’t from the state. Regarding the First Lady, Edobor was heard saying, “Oga, no be our mama — our mama dey house o.”
While the Delta State government, through Health Commissioner Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, intervened and directed the school to withdraw the query, sources now allege that Edobor, previously described as a “brilliant, top-performing student,” has failed her final exams.
These sources suggest a direct link to the earlier controversy, alleging a politically motivated “institutional witch-hunt.”
Attempts to reach Provost Evbodaghe for comment have been unsuccessful, with multiple calls and messages going unanswered.
