ABUJA – July 10, 2025 – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed profound joy and extended warm congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo following the Supreme Court’s definitive judgment affirming him as the duly elected Governor of Edo State. The apex court’s decision, delivered earlier today, finally concludes the legal challenges arising from the 2024 governorship election.
In a statement released from its national secretariat in Abuja, the APC welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict with enthusiasm. The party highlighted that a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, unequivocally dismissed the appeal filed by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had sought to nullify the results of the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election.
“Our great Party congratulates Governor Okpebholo on this historic victory,” the statement, signed by Felix Morka, CON, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, read. “We thank our teeming members, supporters and the good people of Edo state for their steadfast support during this legal challenge.”
The APC also took the opportunity to commend the Nigerian judiciary, praising its “dedication, professionalism and commitment to the rule of law, constitutional order and defence of electoral democracy as demonstrated in the adjudication of this matter.”
APC stated that Governor Okpebholo is now poised to expand and consolidate on the monumental development strides he has started since his inauguration as Governor. It expressed optimism that the governor’s administration would now be able to fully focus on delivering on its mandate without further distractions.
The Party urged all concerned parties, particularly the opposition contenders to join hands with Governor Okpebholo as he works to deliver good governance and development for the shared progress of Edo state and people. This appeal underscores the party’s desire for collaborative efforts in advancing the state’s development agenda.
