Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has stated that the vast majority of individuals involved in kidnappings in Anambra and other parts of Eastern Nigeria are of Igbo ethnicity.

Governor Soludo’s remarks challenge the widely held belief by many Nigerians that people of Fulani origin are primarily responsible for these kidnappings in the region.

“I have been in office for three years and three months,” Governor Soludo said, “if we have arrested 100 criminals and kidnappers, 99.9% of them are Igbos.”

This statement has generated considerable discussion on social media, with many questioning the appropriateness of a sitting governor making such a broad generalization about his own ethnic group.

Critics highlight concerns, especially given the region’s existing struggles with negative stereotypes and insecurity.

Detractors argue that rather than focusing on a specific ethnic group, the governor’s efforts should be directed towards addressing the underlying causes of crime, fostering job creation, and improving overall security without the use of potentially divisive language.
