Sapele, Delta State –July 3, 2025 – RERO TV, a rapidly emerging online media platform in Delta State, is set to commemorate its 5th anniversary with a grand celebration on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. The event will take place at the prestigious Wetland Event Centre in Sapele, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s journey from a humble beginning to a respected voice in community journalism.
Founded in early 2020 by Mr. Akporero Henry, RERO TV emerged during a period of considerable personal and professional challenges. Mr. Henry’s inspiring journey saw him transition from unpaid volunteer work in Lagos to returning to Sapele with a mere ₦6,000 and an ambitious vision. With unwavering determination and the encouragement of his mother, elder brother, and the guidance of prominent Delta State journalists, he launched the channel, initially covering local events armed with nothing more than a mobile phone and an ardent passion for storytelling.
In just five years, RERO TV has blossomed into a credible and trusted news outlet. It has become instrumental in promoting grassroots development, fostering youth inclusion, and bringing to light untold community stories. Its influence now spans beyond Sapele, significantly contributing to media development across Delta State and various parts of southern Nigeria.
The upcoming anniversary celebration is anticipated to draw a diverse array of attendees, including media professionals, esteemed traditional leaders, active civil society actors, and key community stakeholders. Okakuro Dr. Anthony Aghogho Owumi, the Omamigho of Okpe Kingdom, will preside as Chairman of the occasion, while His Royal Majesty, Udurhie I, Ph.D., the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, will grace the event as the Special Guest of Honour.
A highlight of the event will be the keynote address delivered by human rights activist and development advocate, Comrade Lucky Ighoyota. His address is expected to delve into the crucial role of local media in fostering inclusive development and amplifying grassroots voices.
As part of the ceremony, RERO TV will extend special recognition to selected Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), honouring them with awards for their consistent contributions to social justice, humanitarian service, and community empowerment. This gesture, as stated by the organisers, underscores RERO TV’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that drive positive societal change.
Ahead of the highly anticipated event, Mr. Akporero Henry, founder and CEO of RERO TV, conveyed his profound gratitude to all who have supported the platform’s remarkable journey.
“This journey has been one of faith, sacrifice, and purpose,” Mr. Henry remarked. “From recording events with just a mobile phone to building a brand that now resonates with thousands, I remain thankful to everyone who believed in us. This 5th anniversary is a celebration of grace, grit, and the power of community.”
The anniversary event is scheduled to commence at 11:00 AM and is open to the general public.
