The Chairman of the Delta State Post Primary Education Board (PPEB), Prof. Emmanuel Tibi, has urged principals across Delta State to support the government’s renewed effort to curb the growing trend of teachers abandoning their duties for private engagements.
Prof. Tibi made the appeal during an interactive session and screening exercise for principals in Delta North, held on Monday, 24/11/2025 at Igumbor Otiku Secondary School, Agbor. He explained that the exercise is part of the larger plan to sanitise the system and ensure that every public secondary school has a substantive principal who can provide steady and accountable leadership.
The Permanent Secretary at the Board’s headquarters, Mrs. Mabel Ekpenisi, attended the exercise. Her presence underscored the seriousness the government of His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori attaches to restoring order, discipline and proper record keeping in the school system.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Tibi raised concerns about several issues affecting effective school administration. He revealed that recent reports from whistle-blowers led to the arrest of two impostors, a principal and a director from the Oghara Zone, through the intervention of the Head of Service. He described the situation as troubling and warned that such disregard for due process would not be overlooked.
He also addressed the problem of staff who leave their duty posts or travel abroad without permission. Prof. Tibi cautioned principals against shielding absentees or allowing unauthorised persons to teach in their place. He stated that all cases of abscondment must be reported immediately so that appropriate action can be taken.
On documentation, he reiterated that the Board would not accept fake certificates and warned that anyone caught presenting such documents would face severe consequences. He also referred to a recent incident at Ohoror Secondary School, Ohoror, stressing that it should serve as a reminder of why proper procedures must always be followed.
The Third Member of the Board, Chief Okolafor, added his voice by advising principals to remain guided by the ethics of the service. He reminded them that every action taken in their schools must comply with existing regulations.
Before the session ended, Prof. Tibi directed principals to submit their updated nominal rolls and urged those who had not yet been screened to make themselves available for verification without delay.
The meeting closed with a renewed call for discipline, transparency and a stronger commitment to improving the quality of secondary education in Delta North.
