PRESS RELEASE: 30TH MARCH 2026 *CONDEMNATION OF THE BARBARIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE OF ALUE- DO FESTIVAL IN OZORO, DELTA STATE, NIGERIA*

Civil Rights Council Asaba, Delta state, Nigeria, Vehemently and unequivocally condemns the sexual violence of Girls and Women in Ozoro Community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta state, Nigeria, under the guide of ALUE – EDO festival, which took place on the 19th of March 2026

The council is miffed at the heinous act and dehumanization of women and girls in the name of culture or tradition, As no Cultural festivities justifies the savagely sexual violent assault on women and girls, which tramples on their fundamental human right

*A CALL FOR ACTION*

1. Civil Rights Council, CALL on the Delta state Government to ensure that all tradition targeting the violent attack on women and girls in the name of tradition be abolished.
The dignity of our women should be protected across the state

2. We implore the Delta state Police Command and other law enforcement agencies, to ensure an unbiased investigation, and all perpetrators of this barbaric act be arrested and brought to book

3. That any community leader(s) , traditional institutions, local authorities that act as a facilitator of these heinous crimes, must be made to face the full wrath of the law!
As such act normalizes lawlessness and endangers its citizens, most especially the vulnerable

4. Sexual violence leave deep physical and psychological scar on it victims and their families

Therefore, we make an earnest request that medical and psychological support be provided for the victims

5. To ensure the victims get adequate protections from any form of intimidation or further harassment during the pursuit of justice

Civil Rights Council, a non- governmental organization committed to the advancement of the rule of law, democracy, human rights, accountability and probity in Government business, having our head office in Portharcout , with branches across Nigeria, stands in solidarity with the victims and their families, against the Cultural justification of gender based violence and all advocating for justice!
