Victims of a recent fire disaster in Boji-Boji, Owa Delta State have received succor from the Member representing Ika Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon(Barr) Victor Nwokolo, Member representing Ika North East Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon(Barr) Marilyn Okowa Daramola and her Ika South Constituency Counterpart, Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, popularly known as, Chuky Dandy. The lawmakers collectively assisted the fire victims with the sum of Ten Million Naira (#10,000,000). Cheques were presented to the victims on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Boji-Boji, Owa residence of Nwokolo.
Speaking at the brief meeting, Hon(Barr) Victor Nwokolo said that the financial support was to help cushion the effect of the losses suffered by the victims of the January 16, 2024 Boji-Boji, Owa fire incident.
The federal lawmaker enjoined them to be strong and should not allow the devastating fire incident to weigh them down. While thanking God that no life was lost to the inferno, he urged the victims to keep working hard and put their hopes in God for total restoration of their losses.
He thanked Hon(Barr) Marilyn Okowa Daramola for her prompt action when the news of the fire incident reached her. He also thanked Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh ( Chuky Dandy) for his supportive role too.
He used the medium to advise the people and residents of Ika Land to always apply stipulated regulatory and safety measures so as to avert or reduce tragic future fire outbreaks.
Responding on behalf of the fire victims, the Landlord of the burnt building, Engr Eric Ohen expressed gratitude to Nwokolo, Marilyn and Okoh for their financial support which he said was well appreciated.
The highlight of the meeting was the presentation of cheques to the victims. The sum of two million was given to the Landlord of the affected building while ten of the occupants received the sum of eight hundred thousand naira each.
