Major Shake-Up in Nigeria’s Military Leadership: Tinubu Appoints New Service Chiefs

ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Tinubu has announced a significant overhaul of the nation’s military command, appointing new Service Chiefs in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture.

The changes, which took immediate effect, were communicated in a State House Press Release on October 24, 2025.

​The most prominent change sees General Olufemi Oluyede appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), replacing General Christopher Musa.

The changes also have ​Major-General E.A.P Undiendeye retaining his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.

​​The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed his “most profound appreciation” to the outgoing CDS, General Christopher Musa, and the other former Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service, and dedicated leadership.”

​Charging the incoming leadership, President Tinubu urged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to “justify the confidence reposed in them” and to further enhance the “professionalism, vigilance and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
