The Ika people of Delta State have lauded the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for the unprecedented human and infrastructural development recorded in the state during his eight-year administration.

The delegation under the auspices of Onu Ika Nigeria, a socio-cultural organization, made the commendation during a solidarity visit to the former governor at his Asaba residence on Thursday.

The leader of group and its Head of Collective Leadership, Chief Edwin Osuhor, said the monumental achievements recorded by the Okowa administration cut across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Osuhor, who is the Edosomwan of Umunede, said that Okowa had written his name in the sands of time with the phenomenal accomplishments recorded by his administration.

According to him, members of Onu Ika Nigeria, the entire people of Ika nation and, indeed, well-meaning Deltans, are gleefully impressed with the developmental strides of your administration.

He said that the recent invitation of the former governor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was the handiwork of a few disgruntled individuals.

“We are here on a solidarity visit and to let you know that we are solidly behind you; we will not leave you because you are our worthy son and you have done Ika people and Deltans proud.

“It is on record that you provided transparent leadership during your tenure as Governor of Delta State to the admiration of most Deltans, and that means quite a lot for us,” Osuhor stated.

Responding, Okowa expressed profound appreciation to members of the group for their visit and restated that he was not in any way afraid of any investigation on his stewardship of the state.

He disclosed that his traducers ploted media trial for him, stressing that the allegations against him were frivolous and meaningless.

He, however, assured the delegation and Deltans that there was no cause for alarm.

While reiterating that he was not perturbed about the petition, Okowa pointed out that the release of funds during his tenure in office as governor was based on the appropriation laws of the state.

“I thank you for your solidarity visit as l am delighted about it. Since my invitation by the EFCC, l have received groups of people who came for a solidarity visit.

“I am not afraid of any petition because the allegations against me are frivolous as they have no meaning. So, l am not worried about the allegations.

“There is no cause for alarm. The release of funds is based on the appropriation laws of the state. Be rest assured that by the special grace of God, l have nothing to fear at all,” he said.

The Onu Ika solidarity visit to Senator Okowa came a day after the people of Delta North Senatorial District paid him a similar visit.
