In recognition of the ageless saying that no good deeds go unrewarded, Frontliners Club, Umunede, has honoured the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr Jerry Ehiwarior.
The Umunede club, located in neighbouring Ika North East local government area of the state, said the award, presented at the weekend, was in deference to the stellar performance of Engr Ehiwarior as Chairman of Ika South, just a few months of being in office.
The event, which was witnessed by some prominent sons and daughters of Umunede, including the crown prince, Barrister Solomon Korisekwu Ezeagwu, was held at the Ede Hall, Umunede.
Receiving the award, Engr. Ehiwarior, expressed gratitude to leaders and members of the group for the recognition, which, he said, would spur him to redouble his efforts in ensuring that Ika South ‘gets a better deal’ throughout his tenure.
He noted that the occasion was auspicious, considering that it took place during the festive season when Christians all over the world were celebrating the birth anniversary of Savior of mankind, Jesus Christ.
The Chairman emphasised the need for unity and peaceful coexistence of the people of Ika Nation, noting that it was only in an atmosphere of peace that enduring development could be achieved for the over all good and happiness of all residents of the area.
He used the opportunity to re- echo his appreciation of the people and residents of Ika South local government area for their unwavering support, which, he said, was the strength behind what his administration had been able to achieve, and the many more to come.
He assured that he would continue to put the people first in his decisions and actions, adding that his vision was to see a better Ika South Local Government Area.
He thanked the group for their efforts to promote and project the values and culture of Ika people, assuring that his administration was always ready to partner with individuals and organizations that help uplift the lives of the people.
Earlier, while presenting the award to the Council Chairman, the National President of Frontliners of Umunede, Mr. Maduka Caesar, said the award ceremony was to recognize individuals and organizations that have, in one way or the other, blazed the trail in their respective endeavours worthy of emulation.
He disclosed that it was also a way to encourage others to be selfless and use every opportunity they have to work for a better society.
He promised that the group, which he said, was a non partisan and non-governmental organization of eminent sons and daughters of Umunede both home and abroad, will continue to recognize excellence among the people of Ika Nation.
