In line with his avowed commitment to supporting and boosting trade and commerce in the area, the Chairman, Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, Tuesday, visited the ongoing Ika Trade Fair, at the Government Field, Agbor.
The Chairman, who was accompanied by some staff of the local government, expressed delight with what was going on there.
He said that the increasing economic activities in the area, especially the ongoing trade fair during the current festive season, was an indication that the government had been able to create the enabling environment for socio- economic activities to thrive.
He pointed out that, “it is good to see economic activities like this during this period of festivity. I am very proud of the various vendors displaying their goods and services at their various stands.”
While commending the organizers for being able to put the event together, and for achieving great success, he called on the people to come out and patronize those who are selling and rendering different services.
He commended the participants for their bold initiative by venturing into business, rather than waiting for increasingly scarce white collar jobs.
“I am very impressed with what I am seeing here. From my observation, almost all the participants here are young people who have decided to chart a better course for their lives. I have always said that government cannot do it alone. We need the support of our people. And we are ready to always support our people to ensure they are gainfully engaged,” he added.
The Local Government boss noted that such events remained avenues for business people to showcase their goods and services, and a leap in the right direction, adding that his administration would continue to play a vital role in ensuring that the area grows in socio economic activities.
The high point of the visit was the inspection of the various stands by the chairman.
