The Immediate Past Chairman, Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and the Obi of Owa, His Majesty, Obi Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor 11 has threatened legal action against one Mr. Ifeanyi Williams Agholor over libelous comments.
The octogenarian monarch, who is also the Chairman of Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum, said the comments of Mr. Ifeanyi Williams Agholor, a Delta based legal practitioner, on his person, constituted libel.
He said, the comments which were aired on social media platforms was not only false but a calculated attempt to lower his enviable reputation and denigrate his personality in the estimation of the right thinking members of the public.
The monarch, in a letter through his counsel , Barrister Raymond Isitor and addressed to Mr. Ifeanyi Williams Agholor said the comments laced with innuendos were libelous and deliberately calculated to impugn the public image of the revered monarch .
The letter titled: “a call for the retraction of your libelous content published in a video circulating in all social media platforms in relation to Sir Francis Okechukwu’s alleged ordeal at the palace of the Obi of Owa on the 6th day of November, 2024, against HRM DR. E.O. Efeizomor11 (JP) OON within 48 hours from the date of receipt of this letter”.
The letter made available to the press reads; “ We are Solicitors to HRM Dr. E.O Efeizomor 11 JP OON, the Obi of Owa, whom we shall refer to as our client, and on whose instruction we write herein under as follows.
“That our client is the Obi of Owa and the immediate past chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council.
“That our client’s attention has been drawn to a video recording authored by you , castigating our client in relation to an alleged ordeal Sir Francis Okechukwu claimed to have suffered at the palace of our client on the 6th day of November , 2024.
“That in your video recording, you published that our client masterminded an alleged attack on Sir Francis Okechukwu, and called for the arrest of our Client , and incited violence against our Client .
“That your action is well known to you to be false and in bad faith , but you threw caution to the wind with the intention to malign our Client , and bring our Client’s enviable reputation to the lowest ebb in the eyes of the public”.
The letter further stated: “ please note that Sir Francis Okechukwu has sworn to an affidavit in suit No:HCO/22M/2024 in respect of the same incident that allegedly took place on the 6th day of November , 2024, at our Clients palace , but no mention of our Client in the said affidavit that validates your published allegation in your video against our Client.
The letter said, “Sir, you are by this letter giving 48 hours, inclusive of the time of your receipt of this letter to retract your libelous publication against our Client, and render an apology in a published video that will circulate in all social media platforms, or our Client will have no option than to commence stiff legal actions against you”.
