The Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Benjamin Ikenchukwu, Keagborekuzi 1, has lauded the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, for his impressive performance since assuming office.

Dein Keagborekuzi made the commendation when he received the Chairman and management team of the local government who paid him a courtesy visit in his palace to join him in observing the New Yam Festival (Iwa igi).

The Agbor monarch said he was pleased with the reports he had received of the successes so far recorded by the Engr. Ehiwarior- led administration.

He disclosed he was not expecting anything less because he had implicit confidence in the capacity of the chairman to deliver on the promises he made to the people of Ika South when he was soliciting for their votes.

The royal father noted that for Nigeria to make any significant progress, those saddled with the responsibility of managing public resources must learn to pursue policies and programmes that positively impact the lives of the people.

“If we all desire a new Nigeria where the citizens are happy, everybody must be involved in doing that which is right and acceptable. No nation grows where the citizens are only focused on making money without making the necessary sacrifices that help in building a sustainable economy where all citizens benefit,” he stressed.

While advising the Chairman to always maintain an open door policy, he called on public office holders to always regard the well being of the people as a key reason for their being in office.

He called on the local government boss to work in synergy with all members of staff of the local government, even as he urged him to be positively different in his approach to governance, adding, “you should be unique in your governance approach that will make the people of Ika South to be proud of you.I am glad you started off on a good note.”

Earlier, Engr. Ehiwarior, while addressing the Dein of Agbor, listed the projects being executed by his administration.

The projects, according to him, include the 1 kilometre and 5 metres Abude road construction with two sides drains, the Alihame modern market which was flagged off two weeks ago, and has reached roofing stage, the rehabilitation of Alifekede market, with the provision of a borehole and toilet facilities there, the construction of a bridge across the Orogodo river to connect Ediken street with Okoh Street in Agbor metropolis, and the building of a fruits market at the entrance of Ediken market along Old Lagos/Asaba road.

He explained that all the projects currently being done by the government are tailored towards improving the lives of the people.

He disclosed that the Abude Street project, which he hopes would be completed in November this year, was one of the few streets that had long been neglected, and expressed the hope that the street, on completion, would help reduce pressure on the Old Lagos/Asaba road.

The Chairman assured that his administration would continue to focus on building a better and more conducive Ika South Local Government Area that all residents would be proud of.

He thanked the Dein for his fatherly role and support, and assured him that he would continue to do all within his power and available resources to make Ika South Local Government Area great
