Agbor, Delta State – Mr. Darlington Okonma, the esteemed Coordinator of DELTA DECIDES, a prominent media platform, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ika Chapel.
His election marks a significant moment for the local media landscape, bringing a seasoned professional to lead the journalists in Ikaland
The inauguration ceremony, held recently at the NUJ Secretariat in Agbor, was a well-attended event having dignitaries, including the Delta State NUJ Chairman, Mr. Churchill Oyowe, State Secretary Mr. Victor, and numerous other state executives, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Okonma expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in him by his colleagues.
He emphasized the Union’s commitment to fostering unity among its members and upholding the highest ethical standards of journalism.
Okonma, who has been actively involved in media coordination in Ika and environs, calls on all journalists in Ikaland to embrace and embody ethical practices in their professional conduct, stressing the vital role of responsible reporting in society.
“I applaud our members for the confidence reposed in me to elect me and chart the course of the Union,” Okonma stated, pledging to lead with integrity and dedication.
Adding to the sentiments of the day, Mr. Shadrack Egbonimali, Founder of DELTA DECIDES, described Okonma’s election as a “welcome development.” Just as he highlighted the significance of a founding member and coordinator of DELTA DECIDES now heading the media union in such a dynamic environment.
Urged all members of the NUJ Ika Chapel to offer their unwavering support to the new chairman, reiterating that “media practice was the life wire of any growing society.”
