Armed bandits attacked Tarah community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, on Tuesday night, abducting nine residents and injuring one person in the arm.
Sources said the attack followed the redeployment of the community’s vigilante group to nearby Katsira, leaving the village vulnerable. The assailants, reportedly in large numbers, took advantage of the security gap.
Local youths quickly mobilised to confront the bandits, an action believed to have prevented a larger-scale abduction.
The incident has renewed fears among residents, who say they remain exposed despite ongoing security operations in Sabon Birni and surrounding areas.
