Residents of Abude Street, Agbor, in Ika South Local Government Area, have lauded the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, for the many people- oriented projects he has initiated since assuming office a few months ago.

The residents who comprised mainly young men, women and the elderly, said they were pleasantly surprised when they initially saw bulldozers excavating the street about two months ago, because the area, according to them, had never received any attention in the past.

They disclosed that their joy was boundless when they eventually realized that the contract for the construction of the road had been awarded and actual construction work started .

One of the residents, Dr. Efam Oriahi, a retired engineer, who was full of praise for the leadership of the council, said, “those of us residing on Abude Street and environs are grateful to the Ika South Council boss for this bold initiative to have the street rehabilitated.

“You can see that the road is being properly done with drains on both sides. I am an engineer, and I know a good job when I see one. I have been monitoring the work, and I can confidently tell you that the materials being used are of quality standard. I come out almost everyday to see what is going on. I am so elated for this development. This is the first time since 1990 when I erected my building that I am seeing the street being paid any attention.”

Dr. Oriahi added that Abude Street used to be one of the most deplorable roads in Agbor metropolis, but was now gradually turning out to be among the best.

He praised the contractor handling the project for doing what he described as an excellent job, adding that, “the drains are straight and solid to be able to contain flood water.”

He observed that the local government chairman was always coming around to inspect the job, which, he said, indicated his preparedness for the assignment he has come to execute for the people of Ika South Local Government Area.

He admonished, “I want to use this opportunity to admonish public office holders to see the people as the reason they occupy whichever office. They should ensure they do things that benefit the citizens, as Engr. Ehiwarior is doing. We will continue to support and pray for him to succeed.”

In a related development, two prominent chiefs of Agbor Kingdom, Chief Peter Idion, Adolor Dein, and Chief Hilary Agholor, Nwuzo Yeni Dein, have described the construction of Abude Street as a significant milestone by Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior- led administration.

They made the declaration on Monday at the construction site of Abude Street, while on an the site assessment of the project.

They commended the chairman for the courage to take on such a capital-intensive project, saying that he had , by so doing, broken every record, going by the speed and quality of projects being executed by his administration within the short period of three months.
