All PDP Defectors In Ika South Remain Unregistered ~ Ika South APC Chair

Agbor, Delta State – Hon. Hilary Fada Ibude, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ika South, has revealed that a significant majority, approximately 99.5 percent of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) defectors in the local government area have yet to officially register with the APC.

Speaking to journalists in Agbor, Hon. Ibude emphasized the importance of formal registration for party membership. “I want to make it known to the public that 99.5 percent of PDP defectors to the APC in Ika South Local Government Area are yet to register with our party,” he stated.

“They are still adamant to register even after one week since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced their defections.”
Ibude clarified that only members of the Delta Unity Group (DUG) have been properly registered, while the newly defected PDP members remain reluctant to complete the process. “Only about 0.5 percent of them have been registered with the APC,” he noted.

He further explained the significance of party membership cards: “You cannot claim that you are a member of the APC when you are not registered with the party. It’s only those who have APC membership cards that we are going to recognize as members of our great party.”

Despite the current registration lag, Ibude assured that the APC in Ika South welcomes all eligible individuals. “The door of APC in Ika South is opened to all persons who are eligible and prepared to register as members. Interested people should go to their various wards to register, and they will be issued their party membership cards without hesitation,” he said.

Regarding registration requirements, Ibude clarified that the process is generally free. However, some individuals may be asked to provide membership cards from their former parties to demonstrate their commitment to joining the APC. “Though we are not forcing anyone to join our party, APC, it’s good to welcome people who are serious to work with us,” he added.

Ibude also addressed the issue of special positions for new members, stating that no preferential treatment will be given. However, those who demonstrate significant commitment to the party’s activities will be considered for future opportunities.

He concluded by urging the people of Ika South to fully embrace the APC, emphasizing the party’s dedication to serving their interests.

13 Former Domestic Staff Of Patience Jonathan’s Wife Still In Prison After Several Years ~NBA React

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Yenagoa branch, Bayelsa State, has expressed shock over the lengthy trial and continued detention of 13 former domestic workers of former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. These individuals have been held at the Okaka Correctional Centre in Bayelsa State since 2019.

Speaking on Monday during a press briefing ahead of the 2025 Law Week, NBA Chairman Somina Johnbull described the situation as “strange” and unacceptable for a state with modern judicial infrastructure.

“This is a case that we have found somewhat strange,” Johnbull told journalists. “In Bayelsa, without sounding immodest, it is very strange for any matter to last beyond three or four years because of the facilities that have been provided – the e-recording system and all. And so, we find it strange, and then we investigated it.”

He explained that the capital punishment case requires the presence of all defense counsels, and repeated absences of one or more lawyers have caused years of delays. “We had a situation where there were 13 defendants, each with their own lawyer. Any day that even one lawyer doesn’t come to court, the case cannot proceed,” he stated.

Johnbull clarified that the court is not to blame. “We spoke with all the lawyers, and the fault isn’t from the court. Our records show that the court has always been ready to hear the matter.”

He further revealed that in April, the presiding judge offered to recuse themselves due to increased public attention, but the defendants rejected the offer, expressing their continued confidence in the court.

The NBA chairman’s comments were made during a media briefing for the upcoming Law Week, themed ‘Setting the Pace: Law, Leadership and Transformational Development’, which will feature former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the keynote speaker on May 16.

PDP Governors and Wike Strike Deal Ahead of 2027 Elections

Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have reportedly agreed to make concessions to foster unity within the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, represented PDP governors in a meeting with Wike in Lagos, where discussions centered on resolving the Rivers State political crisis and addressing concerns related to the South-South zonal leadership and National Secretary position.

The PDP has been battling internal crises since the 2023 elections, worsened by the conflict between Governor Sim Fubara and Wike in Rivers State. Attempts by the party’s leadership bodies to mediate have deepened divisions, leading to further splits within state and zonal chapters. Recent defections, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, have weakened the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to a source, Wike expressed concerns about the PDP Governors Forum’s recommendations, claiming they were made without considering party laws and had only complicated matters. He also pointed out that despite the Forum’s numerous positions, it has only succeeded in complicating matters rather than resolving them.

The meeting aimed to balance interests on issues like the zonal congress, particularly for the South-South region, and the National Secretary position. Both Makinde and Wike agreed that concerned members should withdraw pending litigations and pursue political solutions.

A source close to the Oyo State governor revealed that after the Lagos meeting, Makinde agreed to brief fellow governors, while Wike would relay the outcome of the talks to his loyal supporters.
