Coalition: Atiku Wants Obi As His VP Agrees One-Term Deal for 2027

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reportedly offered the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the position of vice president in a one-term power-sharing agreement ahead of the 2027 elections.

Multiple sources involved in the coalition talks, who asked not to be named, revealed that the proposal was first made during a private meeting between Atiku and Obi earlier this year in the United Kingdom.

According to the sources, Atiku has committed to serving only one term if elected president and Obi has accepted the offer to run as his deputy. However, Obi is said to be consulting with his key supporters before making any public statement.

This development marks a potential political reunion. It can be recalled that Obi was Atiku’s running mate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 elections, where they lost to the then incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It is understood that both camps are considering a different political party given that both the PDP and Labour Party are immersed in crises. One such option is the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“The Social Democratic Party was part of the plans before now, but it seems the ruling APC has also infiltrated the party. So, they are tilting towards the ADC. Some of the loyalists have been meeting with the ADC leadership, and others have quietly joined the party. So, if things do not favour them in LP and PDP, they may join ADC,” a source said.

In March, Atiku, Obi, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others announced a new political coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027. However, there has been no clear announcement on the proposed coalition till today.

One political insider said consultations are still ongoing.

“You know that by this time next year, by May 2026, almost all parties would have unveiled their presidential candidates for the 2027 elections. So, the coalition move is mindful of that.
The leaders have all agreed that it’s only a coalition between Atiku, Obi, and others that can wrest power from Tinubu. So, they are crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s to finalise this.”

The source added that the UK meeting was key to the plan.

“Atiku and Obi met earlier this year in the UK. That was where Atiku first mooted the idea of a coalition and urged Obi to be his running mate. Obi then asked for time to think it over and consult his loyalists.
But recent developments show that Obi has accepted to be Atiku’s running mate, and Atiku has also agreed to serve a single four-year term and hand over to the former Anambra State governor. They have both agreed to sign a written agreement if necessary.”

Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, confirmed coalition talks but declined to speak on any specific agreement.

“I know that His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have been talking about the coalition. I cannot speak on the specific agreement they have reached.
All I can tell you is that both of them are focused on ensuring that they build a viable coalition that will be robust enough to accommodate diverse Nigerians to unseat the clueless APC government in 2027.”

Peter Ahmeh, a close associate of Obi and secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties, refused to confirm any deal but said Obi remains committed to Labour Party unity.

“No comment on this one, until I speak with my oga,” he said.
He added, “We are in the LP as we speak, and that is the option available to accommodate everyone because you cannot sleep in a hostile environment and expect to succeed.”

Meanwhile, Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, denied knowledge of any Atiku-Obi joint ticket.

“As far as I am concerned, after I met with him in Benin, there was nothing of this nature on the table. He has not shared with me any of this particular issue. Neither has he called nor talked to me about it.”

ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu confirmed that talks are ongoing with major stakeholders, including opposition leaders and even some within the ruling APC.
“The ADC leadership has held conversations with all major stakeholders in the coalition drive and even people in government — that is, even people in the APC,” he said.

He revealed that 21 former national chairmen of deregistered parties have joined ADC and hinted at a major announcement soon.

“Currently, we are involved in coalition talks with all critical stakeholders. And we are meeting frequently, and by the grace of God, before the end of this week, we will announce some of the recent developments to the entire world”.

Dues Dispute Erupts as Former PDP Officials Target Defectors

August Pax

A contentious situation has emerged in the Ika region of Delta State, Nigeria, as former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) local and ward chairmen are insisting that elected and appointed officials of Ika extraction who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) continue to pay party dues to the PDP.

Sources reveal that this demand was conveyed to the Majority Leader of the legislative arm of Ika North East Local Government Area.

An anonymous source alleges that Hon. Chuks Agboma, a figure from the administration of the immediate past Governor, and the Ika North East Local Government PDP chairman received the directive from the former Governor which was conveyed to the councillors and appointees of Ika extraction

The core of the dispute lies in the former PDP leadership’s attempt to extract financial contributions from individuals who have switched political allegiance.

Countering this, a source close to the defected members argues the demand is illogical, asserting that any party dues are now owed to the APC. “I don’t understand why they are saying we should pay our party dues to the PDP after we have all defected,” the source stated. “It is clear to me that any party dues should be paid to our new party, the APC.”

Tinubu will win 2027 election if… —-Nyesome Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, will not stand a chance of winning the presidential election against President Bola Tinubu in 2027, if it does not change its zoning system.

The Minister made the statement during a live media parley on Monday, where he cited the non-adherence of the Party to its constitutional provisions, regarding the zoning of the Chairmanship and Presidential candidacy of the part.

Wike said some members of the PDP manipulated the provisions of the party for selfish interests during the 2023 general elections, which saw the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the party, and chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, who were both from the northern zone, noting that if the PDP tried the same in 2027, it would backfire.

The Nursing Student Who Posted The Viral Video “Na Your Mama Be This” Reportedly Fails Final Year Exam

Osato Edobor, the Delta State School of Nursing student who gained notoriety for her alleged role in recording and sharing a viral video during First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s visit, has reportedly failed her final examinations, sparking claims of politically motivated retaliation.

In March 2025, Edobor was among students filmed singing “Na your mama be this” in response to the MC calling the First Lady “our mother” during her Renewed Hope Initiative visit to Delta State. This rejection of the “mother of the nation” title went viral, fueling online discussions about Nigeria’s economic issues among young people.

The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences subsequently issued Edobor a disciplinary query for a “malicious act” of sharing the video, citing student handbook violations.

However, the Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne defended the query, stating Edobor had disgraced the school and violated nursing codes by posting the video in uniform.

She also cited a separate video where Edobor made “disturbing and damaging” comments, including joking about bomb searches and the nursing anthem’s length, and stating she didn’t know the Delta State Governor’s name as she wasn’t from the state. Regarding the First Lady, Edobor was heard saying, “Oga, no be our mama — our mama dey house o.”

While the Delta State government, through Health Commissioner Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, intervened and directed the school to withdraw the query, sources now allege that Edobor, previously described as a “brilliant, top-performing student,” has failed her final exams.

These sources suggest a direct link to the earlier controversy, alleging a politically motivated “institutional witch-hunt.”

Attempts to reach Provost Evbodaghe for comment have been unsuccessful, with multiple calls and messages going unanswered.

Sheriff Oborevwori Expected to Dissolve Cabinet Next Week

Sources indicate that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is expected to dissolve his cabinet next week.

This development is reportedly related to the recent defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The dissolution is anticipated to affect Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), Personal Assistants (PAs), and Executive Assistants to the Governor, commissioners, SSG and many more government appointees

Insiders close to the Government House have revealed that discussions regarding new appointments are already underway, particularly within the three senatorial districts, which is aimed at accommodating the old APC members

In Delta North, a potential leadership dispute has emerged, with some members of the old APC asserting Senator Ned Nwoko’s leadership over that of the immediate past Governor.

These sources also emphasized the importance of inclusive stakeholder representation in the upcoming appointments, aiming to mitigate undue influence from any particular group.

Tinubu Approves The Establishment Of Forest Guards To Combat Banditry

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of forest guards to combat terrorism and banditry across 1,129 designated forests.

The National Security Adviser (NSA) has been directed to oversee the immediate implementation, including the recruitment, training, and arming of the guards.

This initiative will be a collaborative security effort between the federal and state governments, aimed at flushing out terrorists and criminal gangs operating within these forest areas.

Stop Blaming APC For Your Party’s Chaos – Morka Slams PDP

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has rejected claims that the ruling party is behind the internal turmoil currently plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, where he appeared alongside former PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, Morka challenged the notion that recent defections of opposition figures to the APC were driven by threats or political intimidation.

Morka argued it was unreasonable for the PDP to accuse the APC of causing its internal instability, especially when the party has yet to resolve its leadership issues, including the positions of national chairman and secretary.

He questioned the PDP’s capacity to govern, stating, “How can a party unable to manage its own internal leadership expect to lead the country effectively?”

Referring to Ologbondiyan’s assertions, Morka added, “I’m sure my brother doesn’t truly believe what he’s saying.

There’s no justification for blaming the APC for the complete dysfunction and stagnation within the PDP’s leadership.”

In response, Ologbondiyan insisted that regardless of how many opposition leaders the APC manages to woo, the party will still face the judgment of the Nigerian people in the 2027 elections.

“No matter how many governors you gather in one boardroom to join the APC,” he said, “can you fit over 200 million Nigerians in that room? The answer is no. Ultimately, it’s the people who will decide.”
