Okowa’s Political Future in Question Amidst APC Alignment

Agboje Chuks

Speculation is mounting concerning the political future of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, former Delta State Governor and Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the last presidential election.

Sources suggest the alignment with the All Progressives Congress, APC, was a possible strategic move towards the 2027 elections.

While Deltans wonders about the need to defect, anonymous sources within the Delta State government indicate that Okowa’s recent political activities, including a reported campaign for the PDP in Ika North East Local Government Area just yesterday, are being viewed with scrutiny.

This maybe unconnected with the Defection of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to the All Progressives Congress, APC and to maintain his political stake in the State

Further fueling speculation is the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle by the current Delta State Governor, which could see the inclusion of APC members, potentially impacting Okowa’s political standing within the state.

The close source also hinted about the worries of the governor’s intention to dissolve cabinet, which will give room to accommodate the members of APC.

Police Clarifies Chief Shimite Bello’s Death, Says Husband In A Protective Custody

The Delta State Police Command has stated that Chief Shimite Bello’s husband is currently in their protective custody, not under arrest. This clarification follows rumors suggesting his arrest in connection with his wife’s death.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed Chief Shimite’s death upon arrival at a hospital. He explained that the husband reported her death and expressed concerns about threats from her family. “He was the one who called to report that his wife had died early that morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety,” Edafe said.

Edafe emphasized, “We must emphasise that he is not under arrest. His custody is purely for his protection at this stage.”

The situation evolved after the deceased’s family filed a formal complaint alleging possible foul play. “The deceased’s family later came to the station and made an official complaint. They believe there may be more to her death and are suspicious of the husband’s involvement,” Edafe disclosed.

In response, the police have launched a full investigation, including an autopsy to determine the cause of death. “We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” Edafe added.

The Command assures the public that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

Delta Governor Orders Deltans, PDP To Support Tinubu in 2027

Agboje Chuks

A statement released by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori through his spokesperson, Mr. Nelson Egware, on April 19, 2025, has indicated the governor’s expectation that Deltans and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

This follows reports of the Isoko Nation pledging support for both Tinubu and Oborevwori, promising 70,000 votes.

Speculation has also circulated regarding Governor Oborevwori’s potential move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Though, this platform was yet to confirm the reason for the delay in the Defection move, but what is sure, is the Governor’s intention to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reelection come 2027

Shadows of Ingratitude: Unmasking Opportunistic Politics in Delta North.

By Jude Bruno A.

The political turbulence currently rippling through Ika and, by extension, Delta North is hardly surprising to any keen observer of the senatorial district. What is particularly disturbing, however, is the nature of this unrest. It is not born out of a visionary push for better governance or a renewed commitment to leadership that centers the welfare of the people. Rather, it is a campaign singularly aimed at dismantling the legacy and influence of Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa not through ideological discourse or progressive engagement, but through calculated political sabotage, characterized by silencing, misinformation, and coordinated cyber attacks.

Even more disconcerting is the identity of the principal actors behind this quiet rebellion. These are not longstanding critics or external opposition figures marginalized during Dr Okowa’s administration. On the contrary, many were direct beneficiaries of his political goodwill. They held strategic appointments, managed key sectors, and were awarded contracts that elevated their stature and fortunes. For eight years, they flourished under his political shelter, rose to fame on his political wings their prominence growing in tandem with the administration they now openly malign.

This transformation from allies to adversaries reveals the anatomy of opportunistic politics where loyalty is fleeting and public service is transactional. Their current maneuvers suggest an obsession not with development or reform, but with power consolidation and personal gain. Even more alarming is their glaring lack of a cohesive vision or alternative agenda. No innovative policies, no redefined development strategies, no bold ideas; just the singular obsession with political displacement.

This atmosphere of conspiracy endangers not only the political equilibrium of Delta North but also the continuity of meaningful governance. The people of the zone must remain discerning, understanding that not every call for change stems from a desire for the common good. Many, as we now see, are driven by ambition, entitlement, and unresolved vendettas.

True leadership must be judged not by lofty promises or loud rhetoric, but by the authenticity of its mission and the integrity of its agents.

Delta Politics; Beyond the Defections, the PDP’s Enduring Relevance

Response to Queen Ada Oshimili

Jude Bruno A.

While Queen Ada Oshimili (as claimed) paints a picture of political rebirth in Delta State, the narrative surrounding Barr Chiedu Ebie and the Delta Unity Group’s (DUG) defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) deserves a more discerning analysis. Far from being a transformative wave, this movement reflects deeper systemic issues in Nigeria’s political culture where party loyalty is fluid, ideological depth is lacking, and defections often serve political survival rather than public interest.

Political Defection or Desperation?

The defection of DUG from the People’s Democratic Party, the PDP to the APC is being framed as a moral stand against poor leadership. However, it appears more as a tactical retreat rather than a principled rebellion. Most DUG members have long been beneficiaries of the same PDP structure they now criticize. Their sudden shift raises valid concerns about opportunism masquerading as reform. If governance was indeed the core motivation, why wait until electoral cycles and appointments shift before raising concerns?

Honestly, political transformation is not about crowd sizes or gatherings but about long term commitment to people-centered policies and systemic reform. The April 12 event, despite the presence of national APC figures, seemed more like a photo-opportunity than a platform for concrete policy discussions.

Chiedu Ebie; Competent, yes, but Transformational?

Barr. Chiedu Ebie’s resumé in public service is without appeal to sentiment, highly commendable and enviously rich. He played a role in the education sector and held key government positions courtesy of Dr Okowa. However, describing him as a “political colossus” is rather premature. His influence, though notable within elite circles, is yet to be tested in terms of mass electoral appeal or grassroots development outcomes.

Ebie’s tenure at the NDDC, though too recent for full evaluation, operates under a federal body often mired in allegations of corruption and under-performance. So far, there is little empirical evidence that the NDDC under his leadership has substantially shifted the commission’s standing trajectory or delivered impactful projects across Delta communities.

DUG; A Group in Transition, Not a Movement

The Delta Unity Group’s strength is touted in numbers, but size does not by default translate to substance. A group of 5,000 members in a single constituency might sound impressive until one considers that voter turnout in Delta often surpasses 500,000 in major elections. Without a strong ideological foundation, DUG risks becoming another migratory political platform where jumping between parties depends on prevailing winds.

Their rhetoric of inclusivity and “people-focused leadership” is admirable but untested. There is no known public record of DUG engaging in extensive community-driven policy development or pushing legislative agendas prior to their defection.

APC’s Gains: Illusion Over Impact, PDP’s Foundation Remains Strong

The recent defection of the Delta Unity Group (DUG) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) may generate headlines and create the illusion of momentum, but for the discerning electorate of Delta State, it changes very little. These moves, while politically noisy, fail to address the fundamental disillusionment many Nigerians feel toward the APC’s leadership defined by economic hardship, insecurity, and unfulfilled promises.

In sharp contrast, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) continues to demonstrate why it remains the dominant and most trusted political force in Delta State. With deep roots in the grassroots, a proven track record of development, and consistent policy direction, the PDP’s presence is not just historical, it is active, vibrant, and people-centered. Whether in education, infrastructure, or youth empowerment, the PDP has laid a legacy that continues to speak for itself.

The APC, by contrast, appears more focused on numbers than values, welcoming defectors who often lack ideological alignment. Many of these individuals rose to prominence under the PDP’s platform, and their sudden switch only underscores the opportunism at play rather than a shift in vision or public confidence. The APC’s growing internal rifts further suggest that its house is far from in order.

Beyond the Drama; The Enduring Reality

While narratives like “The Crumbling Umbrella” attempt to project instability within the PDP, the facts on the ground tell a different story. The PDP remains the most structured, organized, and people-focused political institution in Delta State. These so-called realignments are less about genuine political conviction and more about self-preservation by familiar political actors seeking relevance.

Delta State needs more than political drama. Real progress comes from steady leadership, good governance, and a party that truly listens and delivers. The future isn’t in repeated defections, but in genuine commitment to the people and that is what the PDP continues to offer.

Sen Natasha’s Allegation Against Akpabio Lacks Evidence, Contains Contradictions – Olisa Agbakoba (SAN).

Sen Natasha’s Allegation Against Akpabio Lacks Evidence, Contains Contradictions – Olisa Agbakoba (SAN).

Legal luminary and former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has described the sexual harassment allegation made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as inconsistent and lacking sufficient proof.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, Agbakoba stated that the claim “falls short of the threshold required to establish sexual harassment anywhere in the world.” He emphasized that while everyone should feel safe to speak up, justice must be rooted in evidence and fairness.

Agbakoba, who is also representing Akpabio in the matter, revealed he had sent a letter to the Kogi Central Senator on the Senate President’s instruction, asking her to clarify contradictions in her statements which had been widely circulated in local and international media.

“This widespread publication has severely d@maged our client’s reputation. We’re giving you time to address the inconsistencies, while our client reserves the right to pursue legal action,” the letter read.

During the briefing, Agbakoba highlighted a key contradiction: Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged she was sexually harassed on December 8, 2023, yet the following day, December 9, she posted glowing tributes to Akpabio on social media, praising him and celebrating an event she attended in Uyo.

He stressed that the timing of these public remarks, which conveyed admiration and warmth, was at odds with the claim of harassment just a day earlier. According to him, this contradiction must be seriously examined. Agbakoba concluded that the situation, as it stands, lacks the legal merit to substantiate the serious allegations being made.

Ika mirror

A popular youth leader and former state assembly aspirant in Ika South Local Government Area, Mr Monday Alika, has hailed members of Delta Unity Group, DUG in Ika Federal Constituency for coming enmasse on Saturday, April 12 to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Alika, a stalwart of APC in Ika South gave the commendation after witnessing the large number of DUG members who joined the party. He commended DUG leaders and members in Ika Federal Constituency for the bold decision to join APC. He urged them to quickly key into the APC agenda and that of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration which is centered on renewed hope for all Nigerians.

DOPF Calls on Southern Governors to Take Decisive Action on Worsening Insecurity

The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) is deeply concerned about the worsening security situation across Nigeria, particularly in the Southern region.

We are alarmed by the growing wave of kidnappings, killings, raping of our mothers and daughters and terror being visited upon innocent citizens by criminal elements, many of whom disguise themselves as herdsmen or hunters.

The situation has reached a breaking point and the continued silence or passive responses from our state governors is no longer acceptable.

Refund N300m confab hosting rights, Rivers tells NBA

The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has replied to the Nigerian Bar Association regarding the reason for relocating its Annual General Conference from Port Harcourt to Enugu State.

Ibas faulted the reason cited by the NBA, describing it as misleading and uncharitable.

The statement partly reads, “While we respect the NBA’s right to choose its conference venues, we find it curious that the association despite its “principled position” didn’t address the refund of the N300 million already paid by the Rivers State Government for the hosting rights of the 2025 conference.

“If the NBA truly stands on principle, it should demonstrate the same integrity by promptly returning these funds rather than benefiting from a state it now publicly discredits.”
