Delta North APC Conflicting 2027 Endorsements, As New APC Sidelines Senator Ned Nwoko

Agboje Chuks

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North Senatorial District is embroiled in a significant internal crisis, stemming from divergent endorsements for President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general election.

The escalating discord is further exacerbated by the controversial exclusion of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko in a recent key endorsement meeting, highlighting deep-seated factionalism within the party.

Few weeks ago, a prominent faction comprising “old” APC guard, led by Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, converged in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North.

This group, which included influential figures such as State Party Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie, Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives Hon. Chamberlain Dunkwu, and former NIMASA chieftain Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, threw their weight behind President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and Senator Nwoko for re-election in 2027.

However, a more recent gathering in Boji-Boji Owa, the hometown of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in Ika North-East, local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria has revealed a starkly different alignment.

This meeting, predominantly attended by recent defectors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also endorsed President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori but conspicuously omitted Senator Nwoko from their list of supported candidates.

The “new” APC chieftains at the Boji-Boji Owa meeting were spearheaded by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme. Where the motion for the endorsements was moved by Hon. Victor Nwokolo, who represents Ika Federal Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Emeka Nwobi, Majority Leader of the State’s House of Assembly.

The rationale provided for these endorsements was the continuation of the President and Governor’s “good work.”

Curiously, Elder Omeni Sobotie, who had attended the earlier Idumuje-Ugboko meeting, was also present at the Boji-Boji Owa event but could not chant the endorsement of Senator Ned Nwoko

Elder Omeni described the gathering as one of “those who can win election” and affirmed Deputy Governor Onyeme, being from the district, as the party’s leader.

Onyeme himself expressed satisfaction with the turnout, emphasizing that the “energy and unity show that we are ready to take APC to greater heights in Delta North.”

He stressed the importance of “loyalty to the party and respect for leadership,” urging party members in government to “lead by example and support the party structure wholeheartedly,” concluding that unity is the party’s “greatest strength” for success in 2027.

Immediate past Governor Ifeanyi Okowa also played a prominent role at the Boji-Boji Owa meeting, urging party members to focus on the continuity of President Tinubu’s and Governor Oborevwori’s “Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.”

Other notable attendees included Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Hon. Pascal Adigwe, Hon. Doris Uboh, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, and Elder Moses Iduh.

The conflicting endorsements and the sidelining of Senator Nwoko underscore a deeply fractured APC in Delta North, raising questions about the party’s unity and strategic direction as the 2027 general election approaches.

The emergence of distinct factions, one rooted in long-standing party membership and the other largely composed of recent cross-carpeters, portends a challenging path for the APC in consolidating its strength within the senatorial district.

NDDC AWARD : A CALL TO GREATER SERVICE.

By Vincent Jude Palmer Jnr

Barr. Chiedu Ebie, Chairman, Governing Council Board of the NDDC while receiving an Award of Excellence on behalf of the agency at the 35th convocation ceremony of the University of Port Harcourt, said the award is a call to greater service to the people of the Niger Delta region. That is very correct.

Indeed, an award received in recognition of an agency’s performance and impact to society should in no small measure inspire a renewed commitment to public service. It is a reminder for more action. The award is a proof that an agency is doing well, an evidence that it delivered excellently over the years and something that serves as a strong motivation for future contributions to the wellbeing of the people.

The NDDC under the present people-oriented and visionary leadership of Barr. Chiedu Ebie and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku has not disappointed the people of the region but has performed outstandingly. It has continued to make a difference and distinguished itself as a goal-driven , legacy structured and live-impacting interventionist agency.

The recent award in Port Harcourt ( Uniport) didn’t surprise the people of the Niger Delta region nor Nigerians at all. To them, it is well deserved and one among many awards to come. Truth be told, the best of these visionary leaders is yet to come.

Nonetheless the prestigious award is not just an acknowledgement of their hard work, resilience and commitment to the service of the people and a validation of their efforts over the years but a catalyst for future service. It is a call to greater service.

Under their watch, the agency has rapidly transformed into an agency that inspires other agencies to strive for excellence and effectiveness, hence becoming the envy of many of these other government agencies. This is commendable.

Congratulations, Barr Chiedu Ebie and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku. Keep the flag flying.

Be assured that the people of the Niger Delta region are proud of you and solidly behind you. They have never had it so good.

Spearheading this transformative movement is Chief (Mrs.) Dominica Aghaluke Akaepuchiowa, whose visionary leadership is driving a renewed sense of identity, responsibility, and shared purpose among Imo women abroad.

Following a widely attended strategic meeting in the UK, Chief Aghaluke reaffirmed the commitment of the group to a long-term agenda focused on welfare, empowerment, cultural revival, and impactful giving.

Holding the esteemed title of Chief (Mrs) Dominica of Awo-Omamma, Imo State, she described the group’s mission as both a moral imperative and a cultural calling, rooted in compassion, community service, and sisterhood.

“We are moving further and are ready to change the narratives not just for our members here in the UK, but for our people back home in Imo State, Nigeria. This is a new era, and we are fully committed to making a difference,” she declared

She noted that the organization was ready and determined to be a force that will foster unity amongst the Imo people just as she reiterated the need for community heritage and collective ambition.

Formed in June 2024, Imo State Women, UK has emerged as a timely response to the growing need for structured cultural engagement and social intervention.

She emphasized that the organization was born not as a social group, but as a response to a deep longing to preserve the heritage of the Imo people with the aim to foster a strong support system among women in the diaspora while channeling resources toward meaningful humanitarian causes back home.

Chief Aghaluke disclosed that the plight of the underprivileged remains a central focus of Group’s work, especially those living with disabilities or struggling under the weight of economic hardship.

Stating further, Chief Aghaluke stated that the organization’s programs were deliberately designed to uplift the vulnerable and create pathways for long-term empowerment through education, health care, and vocational training.

“We recognize that the current economic challenges in Nigeria affect everyone, especially the most vulnerable. That is why we are committed to being part of the solution through targeted support, education sponsorships, and skills empowerment,” she noted with conviction.

She highlighted that the organization was not blind to the broader structural challenges facing Imo people, citing security concerns, youth disillusionment, and deteriorating welfare systems as urgent issues.

Speaking with emphasis, Chief Aghaluke noted that rather than feel helpless from afar, the group decided to leverage on its collective strength to serve as a bridge between the diaspora and local development efforts.

“We cannot sit back while our communities face hardship and insecurity. Through collective effort, advocacy, and partnerships, we will support initiatives that restore dignity, safety, and opportunity to our people,” she affirmed.

Adding her voice to the conversation, Mrs. Veronica Chika Osagiede, the Vice President of Imo Women UK and Founder / CEO of Vera Gold Foundation, described the organization as a beacon of hope for many women and families.

She insisted that the organization felt the pains of people living with disabilities and disadvantaged, stating that they are now intersected with the power of the broader vision of their organization

“This initiative was born from a shared passion to assist those with disabilities and to open educational opportunities for disadvantaged children. It’s about rewriting the story of our people,” Mrs. Chika said, highlighting the deep humanitarian pulse of the organization.

She lamented the moral decadence and educational setbacks that have plagued the state, but remained optimistic that the efforts of determined women could reverse the trend.

Mrs Chika noted that in less than one year, the Imo women in the UK have gathered more than one hundred members, reaffirming their commitment to lifting others.

“In under one year, we’ve grown to over 100 active members. That’s not just encouraging, it’s a sign that women are ready to help women. We are pushing forward, and we will keep pushing for the betterment of our people,” she added.

She revealed that as the organization gains momentum, they were already mapping out programs aimed at scaling their impact.

“ Our Plans include a series of women’s empowerment workshops, educational support drives, health outreach initiatives, and cultural festivals that will serve to reconnect Imo children in the diaspora with their ancestral roots.” She insisted

“For the members of Imo Women UK, this is far more than a cultural group, it is a living movement. It is a call to service, a reaffirmation of identity, and a platform through which diaspora women can shape policy, transform lives, and leave a legacy of care and commitment.”

Mrs Chika stated that the organization was a movement of empowered women who are ready to uplift their sisters, defend their culture, and change lives,” She added

“In a world where many struggle to bridge the gap between intention and impact, the women of Imo in the UK are proving that with unity, vision, and compassion, transformation is not only possible, it is inevitable..”

Atiku Abubakar: A Recurring Obstacle to Southern Presidency – Okonma

Agboje Chuks

As the 2027 general election approaches, Darlington Okonma, coordinator of DELTA DECIDES, has publicly accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of consistently undermining the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the principle of a Southern presidency.

Okonma stated that the PDP’s recent electoral misfortunes, particularly in the last presidential election, can be attributed to Atiku Abubakar’s decision to contest despite it being the turn of the South to produce the party’s presidential candidate.

He emphasised Atiku Abubakar’s actions in the last election was the same reason he mobilized five Governors that worked against President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 Presidential election

“The same thing he worked against our brother, Goodluck Jonathan for, was the same thing he wanted to do in the last presidential election.”

Okonma further alleged that Atiku Abubakar has a pattern of “destroying” political parties, suggesting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) might be his next target.

He urged Nigerians to be wary of Atiku, labeling him as “anti-good governance.”
Emphasizing what he described as Atiku Abubakar’s “clandestine motives,”

Okonma claimed Atiku was a significant contributor to Nigeria’s current challenges, attributing them to his alleged role in laying a “poor foundation” and looting the national treasury for all his life

Okonma highlighted that figures like Nyesom Wike recognized Atiku’s “evil motive” to thwart the Southern ambition for power, which is why Wike is seen by many as a hero for standing against Atiku.

“Now he is already saying that he would not step down for any Southern President, meaning that the ADC is in trouble,” Okonma added.

He noted that Atiku’s refusal to step down for the likes of Mr. Peter Obi suggests that his continued pursuit of the presidency poses a threat to the ADC’s stability and the broader aspiration for a Southern president.

The apex court’s decision, delivered earlier today, finally concludes the legal challenges arising from the 2024 governorship election.

In a statement released from its national secretariat in Abuja, the APC welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict with enthusiasm. The party highlighted that a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, unequivocally dismissed the appeal filed by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had sought to nullify the results of the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election.

Trouble For Obi, As Atiku Rejects Calls to Step Down for Southern Candidate

Agboje Chuks

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has unequivocally stated his refusal to withdraw from the presidential race in favor of a Southern candidate.

Following a closed-door meeting with leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku emphasized his commitment to exercising his constitutional right to contest.

He declared: “I will not be pressured into abandoning my constitutional right to aspire. Let every qualified member test their popularity through a credible primary. Zoning must not be used to silence competence.”

This declaration has ignited significant debate online, particularly among supporters of the Silent Movement, who maintain their sole trust in Peter Obi as a presidential candidate.

The political landscape for 2027 is evidently intensifying. What are your thoughts on Atiku’s stance: should he proceed with his ambition, or would a concession to Peter Obi be more beneficial?

Global Afrikan Youth Inclusion: Championing Open Governance, Youth Investment in Africa.

Agboje Chuks

As youth-led protests sweep across Africa, signaling a clear rejection of leaders who cling to power indefinitely, Ambassador Ushi Israel has reiterated that “sit-tightism” was a major factor preventing Africa from reaching its full potential.

Ushi Israel, Executive Director,Global Youth Inclusion (GAYI), emphasized this point in a recent press chat, highlighting the urgent need for African nations to abandon perpetual leadership and embrace open governance.

He explained that GAYI’s mission aligns with the broader Pan-African agenda, aiming to harness youth participation for political, financial, and digital inclusion.

Israel disclosed that this effort directly supports the ambitious goals of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

He lauded Kenyan youth for their resolute opposition to the proposed tax bill, describing their defiance as a vivid illustration of young Africans’ increasing determination to shape their own futures.

Israel maintained that entrenched leadership was a glaring issue, calling for a transition of power from long-serving presidents such as Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Paul Biya (Cameroon), Faure Gnassingbé (Togo), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), and even William Ruto (Kenya), just as he urged them to step aside and facilitate democratic succession.

“The call for open governance resonates deeply across the continent, amplified by various youth-led movements,” Amb. Ushi stated.

He cited significant examples including Nigeria’s #EndSARS protests, the “take it back” post-election demonstrations by Togolese youth, and protests in Mozambique as precursors of what’s to come.

Speaking in the same light, Amb. Israel highlighted the troubling suppression of opposition and youth in Uganda including the recent abductions of Kenyan youth, underscoring open governance as a crucial pathway to social justice.

He asserted that these actions demonstrate that the era of leaders clinging to power against the will of the people was becoming”absolutely absurd”

While encouraging young people to intensify their efforts in strengthening and embedding democratic principles across Africa, Israel emphasized that continental policy frameworks and the aspirations of Africa’s burgeoning youth population were strengths to be leveraged on.
