Why there’s acute malnutrition in N/East, N/West – FG

The federal ministry of health and social welfare has said that the main contributing factors to acute malnutrition in Northeast and Northwest zones of the country include low food consumption (quantity and quality) and poor health behaviours.

The Director and Head, Nutrition Department of the ministry, Ladidi Bako- Aiyegbusi stated this at the weekend in Abuja during the 8th annual conference of the Association of Nigeria Health Journalists ( ANHeJ).

Represented by Adenike Bayode, the Baby Friendly Initiative Desk Officer at the ministry, she said in addition, poor health services , feeding practices, access to potable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services, and food insecurity played a key role.

She said , “Other factors that lead to acute malnutrition include banditry and population displacement, as well as insecurity limiting access to vulnerable populations.”

She said the federal government has adopted a multi-sectoral approach to addressing the malnutrition challenges in the country.

Wike loses At Appeal Court, As Appeal Court Faulted The Stoppage Of FAAC To Rivers State

The Appeal Court has faulted the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which ordered the seizure of Rivers State allocations, and set aside the controversial judgment.

In a landmark judgment on Friday, the Appellate Court said that the lower court does not have the requisite jurisdiction to entertain the case and make the orders contained in the judgment on Rivers allocations.

The court noted that the mere presence of the federal agencies in the case was designed to cloth the court with jurisdiction.

The court, therefore, struck out the suit in the lower court.

It said, “The Trial Court lacked subject matter jurisdiction to entertain the suit. Suit is struck out, and all orders made therein are set aside for want of jurisdiction”.

Recall that Justice Joyce Abdulmalik had ordered the seizure of allocations meant for the State, and directed the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the State’s bankers not to release funds to the State, claiming that the Governor didn’t present the State’s 2024 budget to the proper House of Assembly.

But the Appeal Court, in its ruling, nullified the lower court’s orders, insisting that the court overreached itself, and didn’t have the jurisdiction to even entertain the matter.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Government’s economic policies, saying it has unleashed “unprecedented hunger, poverty, and mass unemployment” on Nigerians.

Oborevwori kicked against petroleum subsidy removal and floating of the naira, saying whatever gains the subsidy removal would have brought had been swallowed by naira devaluation and galloping inflation.

79 Years Old Woman Murdered At Owa Alizomor, Agbor, Delta

A 79 year old Mrs Alice Memeh has been killed. She was reported to have been killed in her farm at Owa-Alizomor, in Ika North East Local Government Area, Delta State, on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

She was sad to have gone to her farm on that fateful morning when the unfortunate incident happened. A search party was quickly constituted when she failed to return home from the farm in the evening. It was the search party which comprises vigilante members and family members who discovered her lifeless body in the farm. She was a native of Owa-Alizomor

However, the incident has been reported to the Owa-Oyibu Police Division, headquarters of Ika North East Local Government for proper investigation.
