There is no gain saying that, electricity supply in Nigeria is at its lowest ebb, and one of the major reasons why the country has not made economic and sundry progress in the last years of existence

This of course is unconnected to the economic hardship, increase in crimes, poor educational performance, joblessness, poor Gross Domestic Product, GDP and other activities that can boost the economy of any country.

JUBILATION AS BILL PROTECTING  PEOPLE LIVING DISABILITIES PASSED BY DELTA ASSEMBLY

What seems to be challenge for people living with disabilities in Delta State has been resolved as a Bill that protect and prohibit the discrimination against people living with disabilities has been passed by the Delta State house of Assembly

The Bill which has the capacity to change lives, create and sustain livelihood, enhance access, promote inclusion and eliminate discrimination of people living with disabilities has been passed by the Delta State house of Assemble

Recall that this is the second private member Bill that has been passed, presented and sponsored by Marilyn Okowa Daramola, the Ika North East first female youth representative in the Delta State House of Assembly.

NIGERIANS ARE DYING OF HARDSHIP ~ CRC Claims ****Protest Economic Hardship, Food Scarcity

Civil Rights Council of Nigeria, has protested against the rising cost of food items and other essential commodities in the country

The council during their protest in Asaba, Delta State of Nigeria noted that the cost of living was too high maintaining was as a result of bad leadership and improper planning

Speaking with journalist during the protest, comrade Joy Edigbine emphasized that the Federal government was lacking in leadership led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and those in the tranches of leadership

She reiterated the economic woes was in a high heavens, just as she urged the President and his team to end the economic downturn in the country

” We are angry and are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to save the millions of Nigerians who are starving to death due to poor policy and leadership deficit.”

Adding also was Comrade Comrade Francis Onwuegbunem who noted that the hardship levitating round the citizens was worrisome, just as he appealed to the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to restore the economy to its old glory and improve the standards of living of the Nigerian people

Synchronizing their claim, comrade Christy Atulegwu, emphasized that the Nigerian people deserves better welfare from the government just as she urged the Federal government to put a mechanism in place to checkmate outrageous pricing

” We will keep glamouring for good leadership and accountability from our elected leaders. We voted for them and must demand accountability from them. We will not rest until the needful is done. We will do  everything to help Savage the economic woes orchestrated by our so-called leaders we voted in office.” She added

 

CIVIL RIGHTS COUNCIL WELCOMES NEW CP *****Promises Partnership To Curb Insecurity In Delta

Following the security challenges prevailing the State and Nigeria at large, Civil Rights Council, Asaba Unit of Delta State,Nigeria has promised to work closely with security operatives to curb menace

This was made known in a meeting which took place on the 7th of March 2024 at the Delta State Police Command, involving the commissioner of Police, Police Public Relations Officer, and other top ranking member of the Nigeria Police force

Speaking during the meeting, the unit coordinator comrade Joy Edigbine, emphasized that the council was ready to partner with all relevant security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police Force to help strengthen the fight against insecurity ravaging the country

She noted that, the driver of any economy was security, maintaining was a major factor of  the inflow of investors, as well as the production of food and other essential commodities

Comrade Joy Edigbine who is fondly called Small Pepper, and the Chief Executive Officer of JEEP Film Academy, insisted that the rising cost of food items could be linked to insecurity, disclosing that a lot of farmers had been chased out of their farms by hoodlums just as she calls on other Civil society organizations to help the security operatives to syndicate their actions

” When people say that the prices of food and other commodities are hitting the roof, it is simply because of insecurity. A lot of farmers have been sacked from their farms because of kidnapping and security challenges. That is why we are here to thank the Nigeria Police Force and to charge them to do more.”

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Abanwonda S. Olufemi, thanked the council for finding time to fraternize with the Police, just as he urged them to always sensitize the masses on their rights, and their continued Partnership

DELTA HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY MEMBER, MARILYN, EMPOWERS 400 WOMEN WITH CASH TO BOOST BUSINESS* **Celebrates International Women’s Day With Constituents

Hon. Marilyn Okowa Daramola, the Delta State House of Assembly Member, representing the people of Ika North East Constituency, has empowered about 400 women drawn from the 14 wards of her Constituency with cash to boost their Businesses.

Marilyn who doubles as the Chairman House Committee on finance and appreciation during the event which was held yesterday, the 9th of february 2024, at Efeizomor street, Boji Boji Owa, Delta State of Nigeria  noted that the empowerment program was her way of helping to cushion the effect of the economic hardship levitating the country

She emphasized that, the outreach program which was tagged, invest in women, accelerate progress and inspire inclusion, which she noted was unconnected to her passion of placing her people first in all her political, social and economic agenda

While making her emphasis on the need to empower women, the tenacious legislative maestro disclosed that women empowerment was panacea to the development of any economy, maintaining that it enhances their socioeconomic status, through creating an economic culture that would in turn address economic deficit of the home

Continuing, Hon. Marilyn added that women and youth empowerment was a prerequisite for sustainable development of any country, noting was not just their rights and social justice, but reduces poverty, and strengthens economic growth and development

She appreciated party leaders and stakeholders for helping in achieving the needed feat to ameliorate the pains orchestrated by the subsidy removal and economic hardship

Speaking on her recent bill, Hon. Marilyn Okowa Daramola revealed that the bill which prohibits the discrimination against people living with disabilities  was already gathering momentum, stating that it may be passed by next week

” I decided to celebrate the international women’s day by doing this outreach program across my Constituency. Tagged: Invest in Women, Accelerate progress and inspire inclusion to help them boost their Businesses and add to their economic contributions of their homes.”

Speaking also was the wife of the  immediate past Governor,Dame Edith Okowa, who appreciated Marilyn for her magnanimity and steadfastness in making sure that women feel the pulse of her representation while noting that, the money was to help boost their businesses and reduce the pain of the current hardship

 

NUJ Honors Tompolo for Safeguarding Nigeria’s Oil Infrastructure

In a significant recognition of efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s oil and gas infrastructure and combat illicit activities in the Niger Delta, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) honored former freedom fighter High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, with the “Internal Security Meritorious Award.” The ceremony, held at Oporoza Community, headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, marked a pivotal moment in acknowledging Tompolo’s contributions to national security.

The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF), has revealed why the forum inducted High Chief Government Ekpomupolo aka Tompolo into the DOPF Niger Delta Media Hall of Fame.

The official induction was performed today at Oporoza, the traditional Headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri Southwest Local Government Area of Delta State.,

As a prelude, the Chairman of DOPF, Mr. Emmanuel Enebeli, ANIPR, noted that it was sequenced to an overwhelming vote of the people of the Niger Delta Region in an Online poll, conducted within a period of four months beginning from June 2021 – October 2021.

Osun Government Launches HIV Treatment Surge Initiative

Osogbo- Osun State, through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), launched its HIV Treatment Surge initiative.

Speaking at the launch event, US CDC Country Director Mary Boyd emphasized that Surge efforts in health facilities and with communities were not business as usual for the state’s HIV program, but rather intensified and innovative approaches and partnerships to increase the number of people living with HIV on antiretroviral treatment. She said, “a lot of hard work will be needed to reach the UNAIDS 95-95-95 goal (having 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% of those people on antiretrovirals (ART), and 95% of those on ART reaching viral suppression), but with the support of the Government of Osun, communities, and partners, I have no doubt this Surge will propel the state to ending HIV/AIDS as a public health threat and thereby save many lives.”

DELTA EX-MILITANT AXIS DEMAND SURVEILLANCE CONTRACT

ASABA  Ex-Militants, from the Isoko extraction of Delta State, have called on the Federal Government to consider the ethnic nationality in the award of the pipeline surveillance contracts.

An ex-Agitator and Chairman of the ex-militants’ axis of Isoko, Joseph Okor, Isoko people have long been neglected in the contracts, despite persistent efforts to draw the attention of the Federal Government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to this.

Okor who spoke in Isoko yesterday recalled that the ethnic group have displayed resilience and determination in their quest for justice and equal opportunities and the peaceful disposition should not be taken for cowardice.
