Comrade Igbedion Macaulay, an activist, claims that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was misled by northern elites in an attempt to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

According to Macaulay, the suspended senator representing Kogi Central was used by a group of northern elites who sought to influence the Tinubu government.

He stated that these individuals felt the balance of power was skewed with both the President and the Senate President hailing from the Southern region of Nigeria.

Macaulay alleged that their goal was to discredit the Tinubu administration by fabricating sexual harassment accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio using Natasha.

He argued that the case was a failed attempt to seize power, as the hidden agenda behind the claims was evident.

The Delta-born activist further claimed that the northern elites planned to use Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, whom he alleged has a history of sexually accusing people to level these accusations against Akpabio.

He said their ultimate intention was to force Akpabio to step down, allowing the Deputy Senate President, who is from the North, to take over and “balance” the power structure.

Macaulay revealed that the group promised Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan a position and offered her money, believing their plan would succeed.

”Thank God their plan did not work. I am very sure her suspension would be extended,” he added.

Asaba, Nigeria — In a strong statement today, Public Affairs Analyst and convener of the Nigerian Youth for Good Governance Mr Igbedion Macaculy has publicly criticized social media personality VeryDarkMan, calling him an “empty vessel that makes the loudest noise.”

His comments were in response to VeryDarkMan’s recent threat to shut down the Dangote Cement factory in Edo State.

The threat was made in the event that Ruth Otagbor, sister of media personality Phyna, died from injuries she sustained after being struck by a Dangote trailer.

Macaculy acknowledged VeryDarkMan’s role in public advocacy but emphasized that he overstepped his authority by threatening to shut down a legitimate business.

“Under Nigerian law, VeryDarkMan has no right to take the law into his own hands by threatening to close down a factory,” Macualy stated.

A Call for Corporate Responsibility
While condemning VeryDarkMan’s actions, Macualy also expressed condolences to the family of Ruth Otagbor, who was tragically killed in the accident.

He used the opportunity to urge the Dangote Group to take more decisive action to prevent future road accidents.

“It is time to do the needful and engage the best drivers,” Macualy said, adding, “They need to organize mental and physical tests for their drivers to ensure they are fit for the road and avoid these unwarranted accidents.”

Mr. Igbedion Macaulay, a public affairs analyst and convener of the Nigerian Youth for Good Governance, has criticized the recent Delta State Social Media Summit held in Asaba, Delta State Nigeria

Macaulay called the decision to invite Blessing CEO as a guest speaker a significant “error,” stating that her lifestyle was a negative influence on young Nigerians.

Macaulay argued that the summit, which aimed to teach Deltans how to achieve legitimate success through social media, should have featured role models with proven success.

He contended that Blessing CEO lacks success in both her marital and business life.

“How can Blessing CEO be the role model Deltans should be looking at?” he questioned. “She couldn’t manage her marriage and was chased out… she is a negative influence on Nigerian ladies.”

He also accused her of promoting divorce and an “immoral lifestyle,” citing her public discussions of her sexual encounters and provocative dressing.

Macaulay used the opportunity to critique the state’s official social media handlers, claiming they are failing to attract investors by not showcasing Delta State’s business potential effectively.

“Honestly, we need a total overhaul of our mindsets,” Macaulay said, arguing that a “total failure” was brought in to speak to the youth because of a “poor mindset.

Oborevwori Urges FG To Revive Delta Ports

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday, urged the Federal Government to revive the Warri, Koko, Sapele, and Burutu ports and reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborate with the Government at the centre in that regard.

The governor, who spoke when he received on a courtesy visit, the Board of Directors of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) led by its Chairman, Prince Senator Adedayo Adeleye, said the revival of the seaports will unlock the full economic potentials of Delta as Nigeria’s maritime hub.

He insisted that the revitalization of the ports would create jobs, attract investments, and boost national revenue, saying; “Delta State is strategically blessed with four ports. If these ports are revived, they will create massive employment, stimulate trade, and strengthen the economy of Delta and Nigeria. It is often more impactful to modernize existing ports than to build new ones”.

He commended the NPA for its modernization efforts but appealed for urgent dredging of the Warri Channel and the rehabilitation of Warri and Koko port facilities, stressing that such interventions needed to be treated as national priorities.

The governor disclosed that Delta was working closely with the Federal Government to tackle critical infrastructural challenges, saying; “these collaborations are already yielding results. The Federal Government has awarded the Summit Junction–Bridge head section of the Benin-Asaba Highway to Heartland Construction Company while the State Government has awarded a section of the Sapele–Warri Road project to CCECC at a cost of N35 billion. This is a clear demonstration of the positive relationship between the state and the centre”

Oborevwori assured potential investors of improved security in the state, noting that oil installations were no longer under frequent attacks and that the environment was now peaceful for business.

He added that Delta had enacted a law against collection of illegal levies and harassment of companies to protect investments.

He, however, urged companies operating in the state to honour their Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with host communities by engaging local people, which strategy, he said, was key to sustaining harmony.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, the governor revealed that Julius Berger had returned to the state for the first time in years, handling major flyover projects at PTI Junction, Enerhen Junction, and DSC Roundabout, among others.

“Delta State is open for business, ready for partnership, and determined to consolidate its position as Nigeria’s leading maritime and economic hub,” Oborevwori affirmed.

Earlier, Senator Adeleye pledged the Board’s readiness to work closely with the Delta State Government to revive the ports in the state and enhance their contribution to Nigeria’s maritime economy.

He said Delta ports — Warri, Koko, Sapele, and Burutu were strategic gateways that, if fully optimized, would boost trade, create jobs, and drive economic growth.

He noted that the NPA Board, inaugurated in June by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, embarked on a nationwide tour of ports to assess challenges firsthand before implementing solutions.

The NPA boss commended the Delta State Government for supporting security around the ports, stressing that safety remained crucial to sustaining operations.

He also highlighted issues of underutilization, collapsed quays, shallow drafts, and the need for a deep seaport to attract global shipping traffic.

“Delta ports currently contribute about 10.7 percent of national trade volumes, which is impressive, but there is room for improvement. With stronger collaboration, we can restore the vibrancy of these ports and strengthen Nigeria’s maritime trade,” he said.

The NPA delegation also acknowledged the state government’s role in fostering cordial relations with host communities and implementing corporate social responsibility initiatives to sustain peace.

Governor Oborevwori’s Political Hurdles in Delta State, Threat To His 2027 Reelection

Agboje Chuks

Palpable tensions are rising for Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as he faces challenges in his bid for a second term. The root of the issue appears to be a power struggle for control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party structure in the state.

Following a significant move that saw him lead members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC, Governor Oborevwori was expected to dissolve his current cabinet to make room for existing APC members.

However, he has not done so, a decision sources say is directly linked to his struggle to solidify his control over the party and secure his return for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Some observers believe the governor’s actions show his continued loyalty to former Governor Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa. The theory is that Oborevwori is helping to keep Okowa politically relevant, particularly as Okowa prepares for his own 2027 senatorial ambitions.

Meanwhile, a competing narrative suggests that Senator Omo Agege is already mobilizing his own political machinery to challenge for the governorship in 2027, which could prevent Governor Oborevwori from getting an automatic ticket.

There are also reports that the defection of Oborevwori and other PDP leaders to the APC was a misstep and was not supported by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was allegedly not informed of the decision.

Adding to the complex political landscape, anonymous sources indicate that former Governor Okowa is actively preparing to contest the 2027 Delta North Senatorial seat, setting up a potential showdown with the current senator, Ned Nwoko, who is also pushing for the creation of Anioma State.

Academics, Women Students Demand Closure Of GenGen School

A coalition of academics, students, alumni, and concerned citizens is urging the National Universities Commission (NUC) to take immediate action against social media comedians and content creators who misuse the term “university.”

In a formal letter to the NUC’s Executive Secretary and Board, the coalition condemned the rise of parody institutions like “Geh Geh University” and “Blessing CEO University.”

They argue that this practice is more than just harmless entertainment; it poses a significant threat to the integrity and value of Nigerian higher education.

Dr. Charles Ekeh, a spokesperson for the Coalition for the Protection of Academic Integrity in Nigeria, stated, “The term ‘university’ is a legally protected designation earned through rigorous accreditation.

Allowing comedians to adopt this title dilutes its meaning and disrespects the years of dedication and excellence behind genuine academic institutions.”

He emphasized that the use of “university” by social media personalities undermines the academic standards and respect earned by real, NUC-accredited institutions.

The coalition also pointed out that the NUC Act explicitly prohibits any institution from using the word “university” without express approval.

They warned that a failure to act against these parody entities erodes the NUC’s regulatory authority.

Ekeh further cautioned that while many people understand the comedy, vulnerable or uninformed individuals might be misled into believing these parodies offer legitimate courses or certificates, which could lead to scams.

He concluded by highlighting that genuine Nigerian universities are crucial for national development and global competitiveness, and equating them with comedic pages diminishes their standing both locally and internationally.
