Delta Support Groups Regret Supporting Governor Oborevwori in 2023

Reports from our sources indicate that several Delta State support groups, instrumental in securing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory in the 2023 election, are now expressing regret over their support.

This platform gathered that some members of these groups feel overlooked, citing a lack of recognition from the governor since he assumed office.

An anonymous member from one of the support groups disclosed that despite their significant contributions to Oborevwori’s closely contested election that saw him to victory, he has not acknowledged their efforts.

Another source shared that despite the country’s current economic challenges, the state government has shown no appreciation for those who risked much to ensure his electoral success.

“We are struggling,” the source said. “We put ourselves on the line to support Governor Sheriff in both the primary and general elections, yet we have received no concern or support from his administration.”

A contact within the Government House, who also requested anonymity, mentioned that a plan was in place to reward these groups but remains pending until the governor gives final approval.

Efforts to reach Hon. Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, were unsuccessful, as neither calls nor text messages were not answered at the time of reporting.

Residents of Abude Street, Agbor, in Ika South Local Government Area, have lauded the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, for the many people- oriented projects he has initiated since assuming office a few months ago.

The residents who comprised mainly young men, women and the elderly, said they were pleasantly surprised when they initially saw bulldozers excavating the street about two months ago, because the area, according to them, had never received any attention in the past.

They disclosed that their joy was boundless when they eventually realized that the contract for the construction of the road had been awarded and actual construction work started .

One of the residents, Dr. Efam Oriahi, a retired engineer, who was full of praise for the leadership of the council, said, “those of us residing on Abude Street and environs are grateful to the Ika South Council boss for this bold initiative to have the street rehabilitated.

“You can see that the road is being properly done with drains on both sides. I am an engineer, and I know a good job when I see one. I have been monitoring the work, and I can confidently tell you that the materials being used are of quality standard. I come out almost everyday to see what is going on. I am so elated for this development. This is the first time since 1990 when I erected my building that I am seeing the street being paid any attention.”

Dr. Oriahi added that Abude Street used to be one of the most deplorable roads in Agbor metropolis, but was now gradually turning out to be among the best.

He praised the contractor handling the project for doing what he described as an excellent job, adding that, “the drains are straight and solid to be able to contain flood water.”

He observed that the local government chairman was always coming around to inspect the job, which, he said, indicated his preparedness for the assignment he has come to execute for the people of Ika South Local Government Area.

He admonished, “I want to use this opportunity to admonish public office holders to see the people as the reason they occupy whichever office. They should ensure they do things that benefit the citizens, as Engr. Ehiwarior is doing. We will continue to support and pray for him to succeed.”

In a related development, two prominent chiefs of Agbor Kingdom, Chief Peter Idion, Adolor Dein, and Chief Hilary Agholor, Nwuzo Yeni Dein, have described the construction of Abude Street as a significant milestone by Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior- led administration.

The serene agrarian community of Ekuku-Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, was, on Thursday, 24th October, 2024, enveloped in ecstasy when electricity was restored after fifteen years without it.

The residents of the community and environs jubilated as they showered encomium on the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, who, they said, were instrumental to making their long held dream of power restoration, a reality.

According to credible sources in the community, Engr. Ehiwarior, immediately he assumed office as Commissioner for Power and Energy in 2023, initiated measures to restore electricity in the area.

It was learnt that due to the plea of the then Commissioner, a contract was awarded by the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori- led Delta State Government to resuscitate the power sub station at Ekuku-Agbor.

The joy of the people knew no bounds as they celebrated the development, saying both Gov Oborevwori and Engr. Ehiwarior had proven to be empathetic leaders.

Some of the community leaders who spoke to newsmen, including Chief P. C. Aliemeke, Mr. Simon Okocha, President-General of Ekuku-Agbor community and Chief Isaac Ebonka, of Agbor-Alidinma, said they were glad to witness this historic moment after years of lost hope.

While thanking the governor for the gesture, the people said their confidence in the state government had been restored. They said that with the restoration of electricity supply, the economic activities in Ekuku-Agbor and adjoining communities that cut across Ika South and Aniocha South local government areas had now been revived.

The completion of the sub-station has put paid to the years of blackout in Ekuku-Agbor, Agbor-Alidinma, Obi-Agbor, Egbudu Akan and several other communities.

It will be recalled that Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, on assumption of office as commissioner, promised to lobby for the restoration of the electricity in the area.

Though he resigned from the position in March this year, he went ahead to ensure the project was completed.

You Are Doing Well, Obi Irenuma Tells Ehiwarior

The traditional ruler of Abavo kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Uche Irenuma 11, has described the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, as a resourceful leader desirous of enhancing development in the local government area.

The Obi made the description at his palace when he received the Chairman of the local government, Engr Ehiwarior and management team of thethe local government who came to felicitate with him on the occasion of New Yam festival of Abavo Kingdom.

The Abavo Monarch, who was full of praise for the chairman, said he was particularly impressed with his governance approach which, he said, was geared towards the accelerated development of the area.

“I am glad that we now have a youthful and resourceful young man piloting the affairs of our local government. With the reports we are getting, I can boldly say he is doing a great job.

“I am aware that there are numerous ongoing projects in different parts of Ika South initiated by the current administration. I believe the projects, when completed, will have a favourable impact on our people. I want to sincerely commend you for starting on a good note. Do not lower the pace, as we are praying for you to succeed in your assignment,’ he stated.

Obi Irenuma urged the chairman to put measures in place to fight crime in Ika South, affirming that ‘Abavo seems to be the epicentre of insecurity especially kidnapping,’ which, he said, the community had had to contend with in recent times.

He assured Engr Ehiwarior of the necessary support of Abavo people, and urged him to ‘ensure security operatives are encouraged to be diligent in the fight against insecurity.’

Earlier, Engr. Ehiwarior expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler for his support and encouragement since he assumed office.

He noted that the support he had received of the traditional institution so far had been overwhelming, adding that the high level of support had been one of the cord factors spurring him to do more for the people of Ika South.

He assured the Obi that every part of the local government area would receive the development attention of his administration, pointing out that he was elected to serve the people, and, therefore, would not fail them.
