Senator Natasha Is A Monumental Disgrace To The Women Of Nigeria ~ Okonma

Agboje Chuks

The Nigerian Senate and the public are engaged in a heated debate following Senator Natasha Akpoki-Uduaghan’s public allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

This has elicited diverse opinions, reflecting the complexity of the situation.

Senator Akpoki-Uduaghan, who is married to High Chief Emma Uduaghan, has drawn criticism from figures like Comrade Darlington Okonma, Coordinator of Delta Decides and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ika Chapter.

Okonma has strongly condemned Senator Akpoki-Uduaghan’s actions, labeling her as a “Monumental Disgrace” to Nigerian women and the institution of marriage.

He emphasized the cultural significance of marital hierarchy in Africa, where the husband is traditionally seen as the head of the family.

According to Okonma, public pronouncements, particularly those aired on national television, should have been made with the husband’s approval just as he argued that Senator Akpoki-Uduaghan’s revelation implied a lack of spousal consent, which he views as a breach of marital protocol.

He further expressed concern that Senator Akpoki-Uduaghan’s conduct has damaged the reputation of the Senate Presidency, stating that it is an institution and not a mere personal role.

He emphasized, “The office of the Senate President is not just Akpabio; it represents the third-highest office in Nigeria. Therefore, undermining this office indirectly undermines the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” He added

Supreme Court stops Rivers Allocation, affirms leadership of Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule

The Supreme Court has stopped the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Accountant General of the Federation from allocating funds to the Rivers State government until a valid appropriation law is passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

A five-member panel of the Apex Court also orders that Martins Amaewhule and 26 other members “illegally excluded” from functioning as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly resume immediately.

This decision follows the position of the Court that the action of the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, throughout the political saga had been borne out of fear of impeachment. It adds, that is no justification to attack the legislature or act in breach of the rule of law. It clearly faulted the action of the State governor, which includes the demolition of the Assembly building.

In the lead judgment read by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the Apex Court says to stop Amaewhule and 26 others from functioning on grounds of alleged defection was unlawful, adding that there is now no government in Rivers State, due to the absence of a legislature.

The Supreme Court has described the decision of the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2024 budget to a four-member State Assembly as illegal as the House lacked quorum when the presentation was done.

The Apex Court says a four-member House represents 12.5% of the geographical entity, which is Rivers State. It therefore says that doesn’t constitute the right number to conduct legislative business. It further says legislative business cannot be conducted in secret.

Senator Natasha Sues Akpabio Over Nude Dressing Claim

News from our sources has it that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a ₦100 billion lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, alleging defamation through his agents accusing her of nude dressing to the Senate chambers.

It was also reported that the lawsuit between Senator Akpabio and Senator Natasha comes just days after a dramatic face-off between the two in the Senate chamber, resulting the Senate President to ask her to walk out of the Senate

The lawsuit by Natasha against Akpabio, which has been lodged at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, has sent shockwaves across the country, sparking intense debates about sexual misconduct in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The legal battle follows a heated altercation between Natasha and Akpabio on the Senate floor last week, during which she accused him of attempting to humiliate her by cutting her off while she was speaking.

Now, Natasha’s lawsuit takes things a step further, as sources suggest she is accusing Akpabio of years of harassment, which she claims has caused her emotional and reputational damage.

In the lawsuit, Senator Natasha demanded substantial compensation for these alleged wrongs.

In the statement of claim Senator Natasha alleges that agents of Senator Akpabio caused to be published defamatory words to the effect that “She thinks being a lawmaker is all about pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the chambers.”

As the legal proceedings unfold, many believe this could become one of the most significant courtroom battles in Nigeria’s political history, with the outcome potentially reshaping the conversation around harassment and abuse of authority in government institutions.

Another source close to Senator Natasha, said the decision against Akpabio was predicated on the decision of the Senate on Tuesday to refer her to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges following claims that she exacerbated the face-off with Akpabio by taking the issues to Brekete FM.

Osun Gov. Orders Newly Elected Chairman, Councilors To Work From Home

The Osun State Government has ordered newly elected local government chairmen and councillors to work from home amidst an ongoing political crisis surrounding the recent local government elections.

This directive was announced in a social media post by Olalekan Badmus, the Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Digital Media.

Badmus praised Governor Adeleke’s leadership, emphasising his commitment to maintaining peace and prioritising the collective interest of Osun residents.

“I salute the tenacity of the peace-loving Governor Adeleke. He has demonstrated time and time again that the collective interest of Osun people will always come first,” Badmus wrote.

He further described the work-from-home order as a strategic move, stating, “The order for newly elected Chairmen and Councillors to work from home has proven to be a masterstroke.”

Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reinforced its directive for local government workers to refrain from reporting to their offices due to safety concerns arising from the electoral dispute.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Christopher A. Arapasopo, the NLC highlighted the volatile political situation, warning that it posed significant risks to workers.

“The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strongly affirms its earlier directive, instructing all Local Government Area workers in the state to withdraw their services in light of the ongoing political upheaval within their workplaces. We urge our members to continue praying for peace and stability in the state.”

The NLC reiterated its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and safety, declaring that it would not succumb to political intimidation.

It said, “This release serves as a reminder that the safety of our members at work is paramount. We will not allow our members to operate in an atmosphere of insecurity.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to defending the rights and interests of workers and the general public. We shall not be cowed or intimidated by desperate attempts to silence us. We stand firm in our resolve to uphold justice, fairness, and the rule of law in our beloved state.”

The directive comes amid a heated controversy over the conduct of local government elections in Osun State.
The crisis was triggered when the Federal Government, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, advised the state government to halt the elections.

This directive was reportedly based on a ruling by the Akure Court of Appeal, which had implications for the electoral process. However, the Osun State government proceeded with the elections despite the federal directive.

The situation escalated further when the All Progressives Congress (APC) initially took control of several local government secretariats across the state but later withdrew from the election.

In response to a lawsuit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Osun State High Court in Ilesa issued an order allowing the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to continue with the elections.

On February 22, 2025, the elections were held amid legal disputes and political tensions.

The following day, OSSIEC declared the PDP victorious in all 30 local government areas of the state.

During a press conference, OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye announced that the election had recorded a 60% voter turnout—a claim contested by opposition groups, who argue that the electoral process was flawed.

The situation in Osun State remains tense as opposition parties continue to challenge the legitimacy of the elections.

Akpabio Wouldn’t Be Senate President If Not For Corrupt Judiciary ~ Ex Minister

In a statement issued on Monday, Ezekwesili expressed concerns over Akpabio’s behaviour, citing instances where he allegedly humiliated female senators, including Natasha Akpoti and Ireti Kingibe.

Former Nigerian minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, has criticised Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, over his alleged misconduct towards female lawmakers.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ezekwesili expressed concerns over Akpabio’s behaviour, citing instances where he allegedly humiliated female senators, including Natasha Akpoti and Ireti Kingibe.

SaharaReporters on Saturday reported that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan spoke out about the harassment and exclusion she has faced in the Senate, citing a pattern of behaviour that began after a nightclub incident last year.

In an interview with the Brekete Family, which SaharaReporters monitored, Akpoti-Uduaghan had revealed that she had been denied privileges, pulled out of international activities, and even had her name struck out from a United Nations event she was nominated for.

The senator claimed that she had been self-funding her trips to international events, which she believed are important for her constituents, Nigerian women, and the country as a whole.

She had also alleged that her seat in the Senate was changed to a location where she would be less visible, suggesting that this was an attempt to silence her or eliminate her from being seen.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations come after Senate President Godswill Akpabio faced criticism for his sexist remarks against her, with over 300 women groups demanding an unreserved apology.

The incident highlights concerns about gender discrimination and verbal harassment in Nigeria’s political institutions.

Reacting in her statement, Ezekwesili encouraged women in public leadership to stand strong and continue to represent their constituents, emphasising that representation matters.

The former presidential candidate, also warned Akpabio that he would face consequences if he continued to harass women in public leadership.

The statement she shared on her X handle partly read: “I tweeted last year that if not for the rottenness of our Judiciary, Nigerians would not have an @Senator_Akpabio presiding over the upper house of our @nassnigeria – the Nigerian Senate @NGRSenate.

“That statement has been given proof by Mr Akpabio himself in the nearly 2 years of his “leadership” of the Senate.

“One issue stands out. Mr Akpabio implicitly thinks that his even more accomplished female colleagues must be humiliated in order for his ego to be assuaged.”

Ezekwesili added, “Is it not a shame that one day it is @NatashaAkpoti , another day @IretiKingibe and yet another day @NatashaAkpoti that are at the receiving end of the appalling misconduct of the topmost officer of our Legislature?”

“And we wonder why Nigeria shamefully places at the lowest neighborhood of the ranking of countries on Women in public leadership , specifically Legislature at 4.4%.

“I encourage the women in public leadership to never ever lose their Voice. Continue to stand strong in your commitment to citizens and prove that representation matters.

“All aspects of data do in fact show that representation matters a lot.”

The former Vice President of World Bank (Africa Region), warned the Senate President to be prepared to face what would come to him next time he harasses any woman well-elected unlike him.

“Next time Mr Akpabio harasses any woman well-elected unlike him and representing her constituency @ the National Assembly or any woman at all anywhere in this country, he must get ready. Enough said.”

Babanginda, example of cowardly soldier

The autobiography of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida entitled ” A journey in Service” officially presented yesterday, buried all assumptions about his role while he was the Head of State and later President of Nigeria. It was a certification by him of all the evils but correct narratives that are already in the public space.

Though I only had a peruse, the snippets I got from the controversial book are not new. The self-styled evil genius only confirmed that he’s after all, a shameless coward.
